Anyone notice the dash plaque?

I just finished watching the "His turn, Her turn" review and the last shot in the video is the standard dash plaque.
"Mustang Since 1964"
In Fords own words, there never was a 1964 Mustang. Those were considered early 1965's by Ford. 2015 is the 50th Anniversary of the Mustang according to all the shows that were put on, the press and every other source you can find. So I find it unusual that now they are putting out 1964 on the dash plaque making my 2015 actually a 51 year old tradition.
Just an observation.....

I think Ford really has a marketing blunder in its hands. Since the beginning everyone has always been on the same page of "since 1964". Even though everyone knows the VIN of the early cars 1964.5's is of a 1965. Ford traditionally had Annivarsary editions in 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, and 2009.

Why they decided to buck their trend is a mystery, but I really bet its because they knew a new model was coming out and they wanted to capitalize on the frenzy to get excitement and mega markup on a new anniversary model.

In reality, the cars built between March and August 2014 should be the "real" 50 year cars as 2014.5's.

Time will tell if 2019 or 2020 will be the next Anniversary. Makes Ford look silly/dumb with all the other Anniversaries and all the sudden change.

I took it to mean Since the Year 1964, not since the model year 1964. No matter whether you call the first Mustang a 64 Mustang or a 64.5 Mustang or a 65 Mustang, there's no dispute that it was revealed in April of 1964.

It's a pointless argument IMHO.

I've never met an owner who refered to his Mustang as a 64 1/2. It's either a 64 or a 65.

It reminds me of a line from Mr. Mom: "220...221. Whatever it takes".

The dash plaque is clever marketing along with bragging rights for Ford. I wouldn’t be surprised if these plaques show up on the aftermarket and/or as a licensed Ford product.

I have a coffee mug that my mom got my for Christmas last year that has the since Mustang 1964 slogan on it. It's my favorite mug in the whole world. so Ford is really marketing the fact that the Mustang has been in production for 50 continuous years. It is definitely the year of production no the model year.

Obviously that's what it means... Whatever they call the model year is just for vin purposes. no matter which way one looks at it the mustang went on sale in 1964....

This is truth. Mine was built in May, and driven home in June. For Mustang Purisits, it will always be a 1964 1/2, despite what Ford's marketing department wants you to believe.

Even though some late '89s were anniversary, All of the 1990 models were also 25th anniversary so not the first time they bucked the trend.. 90+25= '15

If your talking about the 25 years badge on the dash, they were put on cars from March 27 1989 through around May of 1990.

My 1990 GT built 9/89 has the 25 years badge. My friends 1989 GT also has this badge and was built 5/89.

Yes.. so really cars built from March 27 2014 to May of 2015 should be 50th anniversary.
including the late 14's.
