With 2017 Fusion getting 2.7 turbo, will Mustang EB get boost

Any research or news on whether Ford will increase output on the Mustang ecoboost with new Fusion getting a 2.7 turbo. Also the Focus RS getting a higher output 2.3 liter. It sems that Ford is letting the Mustang EB get out muscles by
Viable alternatives for me to consider in 2017 thanks

I would expect the 2017's to get an overall performance boost because of the new Camaro. Ford is going to make sure the 2017's do not take a back seat to a Chevy.

I doubt we'll see anything substantial to the ECO or GT till at least 2018MY.

The 2.7 V6 in the fusion would be REALLY good in the Mustang.
Replace the 2.3 and get rid of the V6 and pop that sucker in there....

Sooo .... you're comparing the Mustang to a Fusion?

A $26k-$29k model of the Mustang compared to a $35k model of a 4-door Fusion?

And if you buy the Fusion over the Mustang, you think Ford will mind?
They're still getting a sale, so they're good either way

Same thing if you buy the $40k Focus RS (never mind the ADM that will be added to that car since they're only selling 2,000/year of that model)

It's looking pretty unlikely there will be any significant updates for the Mustang's '17MY. If there were, they would likely have been announced at the Detroit show......

The only thing I heard for 2017 is the addition of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to the Sync3 system.

Not cross shopping, but it pains me that the Mustang is somewhat of a halo car and should not be outdone by other cars in Ford's stable. Save for the GT and and Shelby it would be like a Camaro having more horsepower that a Corvette. Just my musing, but I am thinking of trading my 2014 Vert V6 for an EB in spring of 2017 thanks

Talking

Ford may up the horsepower for 2017 for the Ecoboost Mustang without any pre announcement.

I'm pretty sure that if they were increasing the HP in the mustang ford would be shouting it from the roof tops. I agree with 2018 or 19 with a big boost in HP.

Or they'd keep it quiet so people won't wait for the new model if they're interested in the current one

Or they would keep it quiet until the spring so Chevy will not have time to respond. The new Camaro was not unveiled until May 2015. That was too close to the model year change over for Ford to respond for the 2016 models.

Didn't they do that with the redesign in 2010 with the Coyote coming in 2011?

I bought a 2010 V6 Premium and two weeks later they announced the updated V6 that was going to be in the 2011 model.

It doesn't make sense for EVERY version of the Mustang to be more powerful than ANY version of any other car. Think of it as a hierarchy. There are 4 levels of Mustang engine currently: V6, EB, GT, Shelby. There will be 4 levels of Fusion engine as well: 2.5, 1.5 EB, 2.0 EB, 2.7 EB. Why is it so unreasonable that the Level 4 Fusion overpowers the level 2 Mustang (and not by that much).

I mean look at the Taurus. The SHO has been overpowering the lower level Mustangs for years. Even the Focus RS has a more powerful version of the 2.3 EB than the Mustang. But that's the level 4 Focus (maybe even Level 5, didn't look up all the engine choices on the Focus).

Further if you match up on MSRP, then the Mustang is more powerful than any similarly priced Ford.

Finally there are the platform mate angles. Explorer Sport and Taurus SHO share an engine, so why shouldn't the Edge Sport and the Fusion Sport. I mean the Fusion was the only car left without a performance oriented option.

This all seems completely reasonable to me.

The base V6 is a good engine, Ford just wants to railroad people into the EcoBoost cars if they aren't going for a GT or GT350 by not offering anything better than a rental car option list.

Its ideal for people who don't want the complexity of a direct injected turbocharged engine and the added expense that comes with that when those systems go **** up.

If Ford is going to do a TTV6, they should just pop the 3.5 EB engine in there and bump the power to well over 400 and do an SE (call it anything but a GT500 or a Mach 1 or Boss)

I would contend that a twin overhead cam v6 is a more complex engine than a turbo charged direct injected inline 4. I would venture a guess that the 3.7 is a more expensive engine to manufacture than the Ecoboost 2.3.

With direct injection, the turbo and all the plumbing required there, plus the intercooler I'd venture that the 2.3 is more than the NA V6.

It would be interesting to see the cost break down but I still suspect the turbocharger (since it is a twin scroll unit and IIRC integral to the manifold as well) adds some significant cost to the engine as well as the added components for DI (high pressure injectors and stepper pump). It might be a break even deal for the two engines as the 3.7 has been in production for a good while and despite its added cylinder count its all cheap to procure and manufacture.

Don't really know on costs for sure.

What costs more? A turbo, high pressure fuel pump, intercooler and some hoses.
Or, a cylinder head with valves, springs & rocker cover, two cams, two pistons, two connecting rods and an extra set of variable valve timing gear?

I was on my 3rd V6 Mustang and was so mad at Ford when the 2010 V6 Camaro specs were released that I was seriously considering ordering one. That is until Ford announced the 2011 V6 Mustang specs ... then I waited !!
