I figured that they would replace the 50th anniversary package with the California special (gt) and pony package (ecoboost) for the 16 model year.

 

I like some of the Mustang's cute lighting tricks, like the sequential rear turn signals and the pony projection puddle lamps. The turn signals in the hood are just adding weight and cost for no benefit at all. Maybe they can also add a hood mounted indicator to tell you what your stereo volume is set at.

 

The hood mounted signals are a retro feature that would have been much better suited and appropriate for the early S197's than the redesigned S550.

Worse yet, it's one more thing to clean, and it disrupts the hood lines. As much as I love my '14 GT, the air extractors, though necessary, are dirt magnets and a pain to keep clean, as well as trapping wax, compounds and water spots. It takes me longer to detail my vents than it does to do the entire hood and fenders.

I fear that it'll be too gimmicky, and perhaps even a driving distraction.

 

Nice..........I guess I was hoping for revised front/rear fascias, but this looks stock to me.

I like the grille though

I hate the way they seem to have gotten so preoccupied with little hood lights that they forgot the cues that make the Cali Special so obvious to the onlooker.

For the 2016 model year, Mustang fastback and convertible welcome the return of the iconic California Special Package and Pony Package —two iconic Mustang trim levels made popular in the 1960s. Fans have been clamoring for the return of hood vent-integrated turn signals for years, and in a nod to heritage Ford is honoring the request, bringing back the popular feature as standard equipment for owners of the 2016 Mustang GT. First offered on the 1967 Mustang, secondary indicators in the hood vents would come to represent an iconic piece of pony car DNA. Now, this segment-exclusive feature will serve as an additional “heads-up” for Mustang GT drivers.
“Mustang enthusiasts are not shy about telling us what they want,” said Melanie Banker, Mustang marketing manager, “and we’re constantly exploring ideas together with our engineering team to develop new features we know our customers will love. These new hood vent indicators for the GT model are a perfect example of us communicating customer feedback to Mustang engineers and the team responding with an exclusive new feature for owners of the 2016 Mustang GT.”


New stripes, wheels, trims allow for greater personalization
Several new packages and options will be available for 2016 Mustang GT and Mustang EcoBoost® when the cars arrive in dealerships in the third quarter of 2015. Returning to the sixth-generation Mustang are over-the-top racing stripes direct from the factory. Offered in black or silver, the stripes are available on most color and trim packages.
Last seen on the Boss 302, a painted black roof option is now available for the EcoBoost-equipped Mustang and Mustang GT.
Exclusive to Mustang EcoBoost Premium is a fresh take on the Pony Package. With unique 19-inch polished aluminum wheels, tri-bar pony logo on the grille, side stripe and chrome window surround, the fastback Mustang with Pony Package is sure to stand out from the crowd when it arrives in late 2015.
For customers after a stealthier look, Mustang GT will offer a Black Accent Package this fall. Fastback and convertible Mustang GT models with this package will showcase special 19-inch black-painted alloy wheels, black decklid spoiler, dark taillamp trim, and 5.0 and pony logos in black.

• Six-piston Brembo front brake calipers

• Unique tuning for stability control, ABS and electric power-assisted steering

hmm. I consider myself someone who can handle evolution, but the '07-09 GTCS is still the best. They have not done a good job at staying true to it.

 

I was hoping for the PP to be available with the automatic, come on Ford you did it already with the 50th anniversary cars?

 

The ragtop looks very good in white. But those ugly CS wheels have to go.

 

I dig the white too for the style. What bothers me are the two hood creases. Me no like.

 

Wasn't expecting the CS and Pony packages to return so soon (though I had a feeling they'd come back eventually). Thought for sure they'd expand the availablity of the GT PP to AT cars (the hardware already exists...). Haven't had much issues with MFT in the Focus and Fusion, but Sync 3 seems like a pretty good system.

These hood-mounted turn signals, though...before the teaser a few days ago, how many people here had heard of them? I don't doubt that it was a thing (the 60s saw a lot of stuff tried out), but it seems strange to bring them back. Is this 'because it looks cool' thing or is there a practical reason for them?

 

I'd like to know exactly how many 'fans wanted them'
