Is the 2015 Retro
Is the 2015 Retro
I've seen over and over people writing that the new stang has finally moved away from the retro trend of the 05-14. I see retro cues all over this car. The fastback definately harkens to '69. The dual eye brows inside has been a mustang constant. the (light) gills up front are really cool and harken back to the '65.
To me the car is retro as heck, but with more modern, more aston, more euro influence, which to me is okey dokey! Perhaps I'm missing something, I frequently do..
What do you all think? Do you see retro?

I think the press is asking this question because the new Mustang is two cars. From the front of the door on back it's very retro, while from front of the door to the tip of the nose it's very modern.
I personally don't think it works (but as i've yet to see in person, so perhaps seeing is believing)
On a positive note,I would think over the next few years a simple front/rear end change of looks would be rather simple,as from the side the car looks in rather good proportions...

While having some specific Mustang design cues, I would say overall it is a modern interpretation of the original Mustang concept as befitting a 2015 car.
Well, according to the ford design teams, the grille is inspired by the 68, interior by 67, roofline and taillights by the 67 and 69 fastbacks, hips from 69 and the headlights to the original mustang. I personally think it looks more retro than s197, but it also is a more modern look at the same time. Takes a great team to get that right and they did.
^ i agree... it is definitely right move by ford.. kuddos..after seeing one yesterday i m sold.

I guess it goes to how you define retro. I'll go with, "of or designating the style of an earlier time"
The 2005-2014 were hardly truely old school. They had old school mustang cues with a modern twist. Headlights, tail lights, widows... all looked similar to old mustangs but hardly the same. The 2015, to my eyes, takes that a step further, but there are many elements, inside and out, harkening to the style of an earlier time. So, I'll stick with seeing it as retro. That said, just one mans read.

I think it still has a retro look, and it's a continuation of the previous retro inspired model. It's evolutionary to me, not a sharp fresh contrast with the older version. Tell you the truth, I expected more styling-wise but since I'm more of a function than form guy I can applaud the new car if it outperforms the old one. Haven't seen any performance numbers yet so the jury is still out.
I don't think it's Retro, From it's Stance and Proportions I See A Modern Sports Car that is Infused with Mustang DNA. Just Like a Porsche 911. You can Tell a 2014 911 is a Porsche but You wouldn't call it Retro.
I do not think the 2015 Mustang is at all retro. It has some design cues from previous Mustangs, but the styling of the 2015 Mustang is way more sophisticated than any previous Mustang. I hate the design of most cars coming out in 2014 and 2015. The only cars beside the Mustang that I like the design are the Corvettes and Toyota F1.
Those who claim the S197 wasn't retro
have completely forgotten how many years we suffered after the arab oil embargo! From M II, through jimmy square box Fox, to SN95 jelly bean with a darth vader mask.
That was one hell of a drought boys! Until 2005 finally arrived and turned the car world on its head...
