2015 Performance Packs

Hello,

I went to an EcoBoost challenge the other week in Orlando, and got the chance to drive the new 2015 EcoBoost. I really liked the look and feel of the car compared to my 2008 GT, but i wasn't too impressed with the handling. The front of the car seemed to be lazy on turn in, taking a few seconds to follow the wheels. I'm not saying that it had understeer, just that the hood seemed to roll over into the turn instead of just turning.

I should mention my lowering kit and sway bars on the 2008, so maybe this is why I feel this way, but I was wondering if anyone with the performance pack can shine some light on this? Does the performance pack sort this out?

I have no doubt that the 2015 even without the performance pack will be faster on a track than my car, but it is something that I wasn't expecting. I know the big deal with the 2015 over the previous generations has been the IRS, but I know the front end has had some work done as well, and I just assumed it would make it better off to start.

Does anyone have any thoughts? Has anyone had the opportunity to drive the 2015 with and without the performance pack?

Also, I'd really be interested in the GT more than EcoBoost, but I figure that it couldn't hurt to check on all specs.

I was at an Ecoboost challenge just 2 days ago that was sponsored by my work. Due to it being on the campus, there was very little that we were able to do or test out on the cars, so I avoided contact with the Mustang they had there. Not because I didn't want to try out the Ecoboost, but because there was no way for me to test or compare it against anything.

This Saturday, I will be attending another Ecoboost challenge where I was informed by the reps that there would be all types and variations of the Mustang there, not just the Ecoboost, and we will be able to actually have some fun with them and test out the features. If they have the PP and Non-PP models, I will try them both out to see if I notice what you are asking, though it will just be my opinion.

Currently, I have a '15 Premium GT with the PP and love the car and handling. I do notice a difference in handling when using the different steering modes with the way in which the front end reacts, similar to what you are describing.

Comparing the '15 to the '14 (my brothers) though, we both liked the steering and handling of the '15 better when in sport steering. When in normal steering, the cars handled pretty much the same, and comfort, the '15 seemed to react really quick to the inputs given.

Neither car had any suspension modifications that would affect handling, but this was a '14 to '15 comparison and I'm sure vary from the '08, especially when lowered.

Yes, this event was EcoBoost only, and we weren't allowed to change any driver settings even though they were premiums and had the different driving modes available. I don't think it would have affected body roll, which to me was more the issue, but maybe sharper steering would help.

We had to leave the traction control in the full on settings.

Well, the event today was actually fun and it was interesting to drive the ecoboost. We were allowed to adjust the settings in the car as long as we put them back after with the exception of traction control. Comparing it to my GT Premium though handling wise, it was about the same as what I posted earlier.

The sharper steering had minimal effect on the body roll that I experienced, and I do believe a lowered suspension would eliminate a lot of what I feel in the cars. Probably best to get feedback off of someone that has done some suspension modifications to theirs on the before and after handling characteristics.
