2015 instantly dates the S197, Ford nailed it.
I wasnt head over heels over it, but seeing it up close for real, its not bad... The saddest thing though is still about 90% of the people i asked all said ' oh, its OK...' Definitely not like the positive comments when the 05 came out, or the negative comments when the '10 came out... The all new 05 was a hit to say the least, the 10 taillights and 'diaper' comments were anything but good... Have met very few that outright hated the 15 right out of the gate, but most were sorta 'its OK...' Hope it does better than just OK sales wise..
I'm with Joe, our dealers have them on the lot and I think someone was accurate in describing the new model as just different. It looks just as good as the outgoing model but depending on preference, I think most would say it doesn't exactly look better. But that's not a slight..b/c they are both terrific looking models.
If you like the more sleek curved look the 2015 will appeal to you more. I would certainly pick it if I didn't already have my 13, which I love. I will say the interior is WAY better, the seats are SO much more comfortable and supportive in the 15. Also the stick layout is shifted away from the cupholder more..but not by much.
The electronics are overall better with bigger displays...but feature wise I didn't see much more than what's in my current car, excluding the updated track app stuff. I think there is an extra USB port. But I would say they basically rearranged the buttons to make everything more accessible and more stacked. Steering wheel felt a bit softer to touch which was nice and it seemed smaller. The switches were a fun feature..but i'm guessing they will be gone eventually. I have a feeling the interior will go back to a more squared typical look in a year or two b/c alot of it looks more like style over function. With the push button you also have the touch sensitive locks on the doors that alot of cars have now. So the car just feels like it caught up on everything feature wise.
The headlights are as nice in person as they are in pictures and the tail lights actually have more in common with the previous model than you think. They have a surround with the light in the center..it's just that it's transparent so the light shows through anyway. The new decklid design looks nice too..and I noticed there seemed to be at least two variations between the non GT models. It does feel a bit lower when you approach and sit in the car, but the perspective felt basically the same when inside.
I didn't get to test drive one but..sitting in the 15 definitely gives you that familiar feeling as you would expect. Just with a bit more refinement.

It's designed to appeal to a wider audience, I'd say Ford did it's job. When I was on the lot..I saw people looking at them that I usually don't see in a Ford lot. Even some woman with a Russian like accent

Saw one in the parking lot of a Fire house on Sunday. I had to take a second look because it really did look like a Fusion from the front...even in person. Sorry 2015 lovers. Still not impressed with the looks. I would like to test drive one though. This all being said... I really like what Chip Foose did with the MMD aside from the red wheels.
Out of the Mustang owner's I know though? Mixed bag. Half and half. Some like it, some don't.
So, to reinforce the point made by, CBJ, above me, it seems like they aimed to widen their market, and they are succeeding in that.

Finally got to see a couple at the dealer this morning while waiting for my oil change. A black and grey non GT both. Still in the same boat. Love the rear but can't stand the front end. Only got to look through the window at the interior and it looked pretty cool but in the end I was happy to jump back into my 2014. For me, I made the right choice of buying a 2014.
I'm looking forward to how they refine the look over the coming years.
At least she's got a great ***.

I am also very happy with my decision as well.
Just considering the front end, I prefer my 2012 to the new one. As for dating the older ones, good, I'm glad they did that. I feel the 2011 thru 2014s have the best of both worlds, stepped up horsepower and great looks. I can live with that.
The more I see of them the more they grow on me, but have yet to drive one.
It won't change how i feel about mine though, as I have customized mine to exactly what i wanted a mustang to look like

He never once put the 2014 down. You may have read it that way due to your insecurities about the '14 but only you know for sure. I drove the 2015 GT yesterday and it is indeed awesome. The dry clutch feels like a dream compared to my previous '14 (traded in May). The IRS makes driving around town a very comfortable experience. At 65 it got almost 27 MPH, the seats are fantastic and the interior is finally something to be proud of. And the hood 'fins' were barely noticeable over the pleasing roar of the V8. As soon as the dealership decides to sell me one at invoice, I'm all in.
