2015 convertible or coupe?

I have a 2012 GT coupe that I bought in April of 2011. The looks of the 2015 has really grown on me and I want to trade mine in for the 2015 in Spring of 2015. I have never owned a convertible, I know the convertible costs more to insure and maintain. The coupe is also a lot safer if your car was to flip in a bad accident. I can't decide between coupe or convertible. Which do you prefer, 2015 coupe or convertible and why?

If you are sexy, get convertible.
If you are not sexy, get coupe

I like the coupe best. Safer and more visibility. My first mustang was a convertible. Bought it without thinking it through. It was fun at first but in the end, it was not my cup of tea. Blind spots, wind noise, extra maintenance and it developed a small leak. I was also worried that someday it would malfunction when putting the top down or up and get stuck in the middle.

The 2015 convertible looks really nice. Looks classy and sleek, with the top down. I like how the top finally goes down flush. I hated having to put that cover on. Eventually I stopped doing it. It was not convenient if you needed to put the top up in a hurry. I have not seen one yet with the top up. With the sensors and rear camera, the blind spots are helped. But the safety issue still stands. I kinda miss having a convertible. If I wanted a second mustang and convertible, I would go with the 2015.

Why do you think it costs more to maintain? Are you talking about maintenance of the top itself?

I have a vert, and while I really enjoy it, I would also like to have a coupe. the main reason is verts are not allowed in many autocross events and other racing events unless you install a roll bar, a coupe is allowed without modification. bottom line is if you are just going to DD and cruise a vert is the way to go, if you are going to track the car a coupe is a must.

Thanks Chorse. The top looks better now when down. Still looks like a separate parts to cover up the sides.

I have a 2014 coupe and my wife has a 2014 vert. My car has about 5200 miles and her's only has about 900. I drive my coupe whenever the roads aren't wet or if it's not rainy only because I don't want to wash my car on my next day off. She only drives her vert if it's warm and the sun is out. We both have bad weather cars.

If you don't have a garage I'd get a coupe. The weather can mess up a vert top in only a few years.

I picked up my 2014 convertible just one year ago and it now has near 18K miles on it. I love having a convertible and, when I am alone, if it's dry out the top is down. If my wife is with me it depends on how cold it is.
The club I autocross with does NOT require a roll bar on a convertible. I don't have any desire to track my car, so no worries there.
The new convertible top appears to operate faster than mine does, and that's good. On the other hand, I thought I had read that convertibles won't be available until later in the year. Perhaps by the time you are ready to buy that won't be an issue.
I have had convertibles since late '99 and would not be without one.

You are right about the track limitations. However, for a couple of $K I had a custom "bolt in" 4 point SCCA spec roll bar built for my 2013 GT vert. I can take it out in about 45 minutes and put it in in about 1 hour 15 minutes, without getting under the car - every thing done from in the cabin. I can now get it into almost all track events I am interested in. I thought it was a "cost effective way" to have the vert for DD and still be able to do the track things I enjoy - autocross and road course.

Might depend where you live? Is this going to be a daily driver?

I've owned a number of Fox body Mustang's,and by far my favorite's were the two vert's I owned. It's just a completely different experience driving a convertible.Kinda like the same freedom feeling as riding a motorbike.

Maybe try renting a Mustang Vert and see if it's your thing.

I bought a used '99 vert back in 2005, and had it for 6 years as a Daily Driver, even in the winter. It went well until the last year, then the top needed replacing when it was starting to leak (about $1500 and they did a good job). So... if you think about it, 10 years for a top is pretty good for a winter driven car.

That being said, what I liked about the 'vert was the sun, but my wife disliked the wind. So when I bought a 2014, I got the glass roof instead (best of both worlds).

However, there is no glass roof option on the 2015. So if I had to buy now, I would get the 'vert. I also think that the design of the car makes the 2015 look better as a convertible than as a coupe.

I am almost in complete agreement. I love the Glass Roof of the current models. And I am at the same conclusion that the new verts look better than the coupes! I just need to see them in person to be sure. I've never been a convertible fan, but this new model could change that.

I had a vert. A glass top coupe would be my pick.

Ford appears to be marketing the 2015 as the 2015 Mustang convertible or the 2015 Mustang Fastback!

I don't think they will be calling it a coupe. I like the Fastback look but not so much the convertible for many reasons. Not the least of which is the Fastback body lines seem to be missing on the Vert.

I think you are right about the lines looking different between the vert and the coupe. In my case, I much prefer the look of the convertible, even with the top up. I feel like the coupe roof line just screams Camaro.....along with the wide rear hips. To me, the vert looks like it just "stands up" better then the coupe. FORD did say they were designed as two different cars rather then just designing the coupe and then cutting off the roof - as was done in previous years.

Before you go and invest that much money, you owe it to yourself to go rent one for a couple of days. I've found out that either you love a rag top, or hate it. My '95 GT ragtop was involved in a four car pile up on the interstate back in August of last year and was totaled out. I'm now driving my son's '95 GT ragtop and slowly transferring all my performance goodies over to his.
I'm just holding out for the '15 to be available, but I think this time I'm going to step up to a fastback.
If you drive it every day and don't garage park it, expect a new top about every 5 years on average. And that can be anywhere from $900 and up to $1600, depending on your local installers prices. There is always the fear of someone cutting the top to steal stuff, so NEVER leave ANYTHING in the car that would entice a crook.
Keeping the top clean, another chore. NEVER park under a tree of any kind. All trees drip sap during the day. Some, you cannot even see the sap, such as a live oak. But it will cause the top to mildew and spot up much quicker.
If you do get a convertible, I have discovered over the years there is one and only one cleaner/conditioner to use. RaggTopp. All else is a waste of your time. Oh, and NEVER EVER use a cleaner with bleach or Clorox in it. It will rot your stitching and things will start to fall apart after a few months. Don't ask me how I know this....

I love the fastback look so much, I wouldn't want to give it up for a convertible. I'm hoping they bring back the glass roof option for 2016. It would be really nice if it opened up like the roof on the new Lincoln MKZ, but even another fixed glass roof would be good.

I have no insider info obviously, but I am betting on this. Ford is all about their BAMFs these days, and they aren't going to leave the Mustang out. It might take a little longer to engineer, but I would bet it is coming. That or maybe even a Targa to offer a lower cost 911 alternative!
