Given Fords current production schedule it would be more likely to reveal at the least the prototype on April 17 2013. The anniversary has fallen on the 4 and 9 model years so this being the 4 and the 50th following the time line they have always used, I think announcing it this April makes more sense
Of course they could always extend the 24 production like they shortened the 2010 to roll out the 5.0 earlier. I can't wait to see something solid from Ford so I can decide if im ordering a 2014 or waiting for the 15.
+1 on that couldn't say it better myself

Why's that?

Whilst I appreciate the Mustang is (and should remain) an American icon, wouldn't it be nice if it could go head to head with world-wide competition and win without compromise?

That being said, if the 2.3 four cylinder is being developed with Europe in mind, you guys can keep it

Well, I guess we'll find out in a couple of months. If there's no concept car show on the 49th anniversary this year, then I really don't think there's much chance of seeing it much before the 50th. If that's the case, the current MY can be a long one, and there's a few ways Ford can play that.

Personally, I'd love to see something in 8 or 9 weeks time

It need to be global. They should sell in Australia too. Sales are nothing what they used to be. They sold a million of them when based off the Falcon. And most donor platforms have gone FWD. The modern Falcon (USA) is a Focus. just be glad we still have it. While a Focus ST is nice I don't want another Probe!

I'm absolutely interested, but until I know what it looks like, price, mechanical advances.... I really can't make an intelligent decision. Though there are those who might say that investing 40k+ in a car with an completely unnecessary 400+ ponies and gets an average 17 mpg isn't an intelligent decision in any case..

For me it's all about dollars per horsepower per smiles. Fundamental guy math.

there have been mentions of this "next gen"/50th anniversary model for so long now it seems, does anyone actually know when we first heard the IRS was a go? I think that was the first mention..

Anyhow, point is that they've had plenty of time for powertrain development and I will be very disappointed if there isn't any new tech under the hood.

with all the rumors of the four banger ecoboost, it got me thinking that there are no rear drive transmissions that will bolt to a 4cyl engine available that I know of, someone please correct me if i'm wrong. So it seems the sky is the limit and I really hope nobody has the stupid idea of putting a dual-clutch-auto-ratchety-clankity piece of junk transmission that is anything like the focus DCT's...

Anyone know of new transmissions in development? think I heard a rumor that Ford would be working together with GM on designing new 8 speed auto's as they had with the 6R and 6F, I wanna say it came from motor trend.

I think it would be better for Ford just offer the 2015 Stang to Europe & I think UK will be offer with Left hand Drive units(Just Like the LHD Camaro sales in UK).

Australia have many big company that converts the LHD American cars to RHD professionally. So no big issue for them? Australia can order the Stang anytime if they want to.

I have read many American cars(300C, Dodge Caliber, Dodge Nitro, Dodge Journey, Hummer H2) do not do well in the RHD market country. Most RHD country are in Asia that prefers European & Japanese models compare to American cars because the price will be par with the European car models(BMW, Merc etc).E.g. A 300C in Asia would costs 100k & is similarly priced with the Merc E Class with better offering(Leather seats etc)

It was my understanding that we would see the 2015 at the New York International Auto Show Friday March 29th through Sunday April 7th 2013. I can't remember where I heard this. It that not correct? Maybe this was a wild rumor!

This is a little strange but they show a picture of a car covered but in the description below they are describing the 2013.

Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ have a 4 cyl (granted its a boxer) and they are RWD.

BMW 320 and 328 about both 4 cyl with RWD and manual options.

Or did you just mean in Ford's parts bin?

Sure sounds like the 2013/2014 Mustang to me. Im sure the car under cover is just a stock image they use, but who knows. The Mustang did debut in NY in 64 soo maybe...

yes, I meant what Ford has available to them, I suppose it wouldn't be hard to make a unique transmission case for the 4 cylinder cars

It's really too bad ford doesn't have a decent high torque dct in the parts bin because a good one would really be a perfect transmission for those who don't want/can't drive a manual.

Perhaps he didn't buy it new? Seams plausible that he's making payments on a used model.

my impressions of the current DCT with driving them new before delivery, to having to fix them with common issues, I would never buy one and would never suggest doing so.

gimme a clutch pedal, or a toque converter and some paddle shifters that actually work.

Like i said its too bad they don't have a good one. Obviously your experience shows the current low torque application in the focus/fiesta is a fuel economy play. If I could transplant the high performance unit from my s4 to a new mustang it would be a tremendous driving experience. The immediacy of the shifts is much better than a torque converter with paddles. I had a manual mustang and I love the dct in my audi and the one in the m3 which I have driven as well. It's really just wishful thinking that they would add one because I doubt the economy of scale would be there to develop a top notch unit.
