I'm betting on a Mach I but wouldn't be surprised to see Ford go with a Boss 351 either

I'm betting it will be narrower like the 64-66 models were.

I know, and I hate their way of thinking. In a way, the SE buyer gets screwed, because a lot of those improvements go into the redesign a year or two later.

Which would you rather have, a 04 Mach1 or a 2005 Mustang GT?

I like the new Boss 302, but I know we are going to see a lot of those improvements in the Next Gen Mustang GT. Especially if the Camaro & Challenger improve.

So the 7.0L (428/429) SE is dead?

How many different Mustang "models" have there been? Base, GT, LX, GT350, GT500, Mach 1, Boss, Bullitt, Ghia, Cobra, SVO, ???

I think there's plenty of options for SE models.

I'd take the Mach 1. In azure blue my favorite. But I wouldn't take it over and 2010+

Could be worse, how about the guys who paid MSRP for a 2010 GT?

What he said. Makes for a very interesting marketing strategy. Considering they want to go turbo across the board. Ford would be able to get fed back and work towards the new cafe standards. This would have a profound effect on weight and styling and customer acceptance, I think.

No doubt!

Bottom-line, if I am paying top dollar for a Special Edition, I want it to be "special" for more than 24 months! Know what I mean?

I want a Mach 1 in Year 2 of a re-design, not Year 9!

You will have to wait and hope for it in the 2016 Mustang then.

94 GT is right, the whole purpose of an SE is to boost sales of an aging body style right before a refresh.

Look at most of Ford's last SEs

1993 Cobra... last year of the fox body

2003-04 Mach1 and Terminator Cobras... put some extras life into the old 4th gen

2008-09 BULLITT was an SE but also a running prototype for the 2010 GT

Yes, I've been hearing that for years, but there isn't any proof to back it up. Take a look at Mustang sales from 2000 - present.

So Ford ends up selling 5k-10k Bullitts. Does it really matter when they only sold a grand total of 91k Mustangs? Was all the R&D and tooling really worth it?

Bring a Mach1 out in year 2 or 3, when the buzz is still hot about the redesign. There will be more people in the show rooms looking at the new model. Plus, SE volumes may increase from 10K to 15k or 20k.

I guess no one can statistically prove this but SEs like the GT500, Boss, Mach1 kinda provide eye candy to potential buyers. You may be wowed by the Boss and end up with a V6 or GT but the Boss helped bring you into the show room. That is what a Ford marketing rep told me years ago when the Bullitt came out.

Yep.
This is like anything though.
Entice the people to come in and take a look, settle for something lower in the chain, and hope to keep them around long enough to potentially get the one they wanted or higher.

I'm a perfect example. Was looking at a GT back in 2002, but went with a V6 (I was younger and insurance would have raped me + the cost of the car)
Now I drive a GT, want a BOSS/GT500
See..it works!

comparatively speaking, SE's are cheap and easy to do as well as offering better ROI even something like the GT500 and Boss probably cost less to develop than it did to put a new interior in the 2010+ Mustangs.

The only downside I think to Ford doing all the SE's are the knuckleheads that complain loudly about another iteration of the Mustang.

+1 Back in '97 a friend of mine at work saw my '94 v6 coupe and really liked it. A week later, he bought a '97 Cobra Convertible.

It's working on me too. I went to a dealership to just get a look at a 2011 GT500 that I'm really not in a position to buy but now I'm heavily considering buying a new V6 Premium next year.
