2011 DUB Edition Mustang "causing quite a bit of a stir" within Ford

According to Jim Farley, Group VP, Global Marketing for Ford...

He made the statement while discussing the flared hip fender at about 2:10 in this video released by Ford last week.

I think his body language shows the extent to which his statement is probably true.

Hmmmm....

With some many variations, I think we are watering down our beloved stangs.

I suspect the comment was more with respect to how the lines on the car were changed. There may some discussion with respect to the design features and the 2014...

Isn't every modded Mustang a "variation" in some sense?

Yes every mod you do is a variation and its what makes Mustangs great and besides since the beginning of the Mustang history so the GT/CS and the MCA edition are just following in the footsteps of their forefathers

Indeed, the best part of the Mustang is that... if you mod it, it's yours. I know that, unless there's a copy cat out there, nobody's going to have a Mustang like mine. I like it better that way. Muskrat was a one off. Awesome will be too.

Even the special editions don't stay 'plain' within their own ranks in many cases.

And that's just what makes them all the more special.

It doesn't dilute anything... it makes them more unique individually, but still a group of enthusiasts. The same group that keeps Mustang around, that kept it from becoming the Probe.

Yay us!

Looks like a widebody kit that import fans seem to like. Would make a neat base for a GT1 type of replica. Better have the power to back up the looks so as to not be branded a ricer.

Ford should definently NOT do a Nelly edition of the 5.0! It was pretty cool how interested he was in the 5.0 tho!

Maybe it's just me... but I laughed out loud at the Chevy salesman that showed me the 'Transformer' edition Camaro. I think the Camaro is fugly to start with... but a Transformer model?

Coworker just bought a Plum Crazy Challenger R/T that looks a helluva lot better than I remember from looking at them last fall... but I think the Mustang still looks 'more like a Mustang' than any of the others look like the 'classics'.

David,
I just bought the 2011 Mustang~Candy Applle Red, V6 with Pony Pkg and upgraded handling.
The CEO at Ford, Alan Mullaly has kicked butt to make a world class competator. Camaro will fade. The ford group has done what GM should have done.
I don't know about you but I was blown away with the improvements for 2011. I traded my 2006 V6 in and expected some similarities...other than the rear view mirror adjustments there seems to be no caryover. I especially liked the 6 speed auto, the 3.7 V6, the sporty handling, the larger alloys, the sharper interior and above all the blue tooth radio that syncs with my iphone for tunes directionns and calls...Wow! This car in IMHO is a bargain. I doubt it will get >30 + Hwy mpg - but here's hoping

I dont think it would be at all appealing if they made a "dub" edition.... i think doin the "bling" thing to a mustang is just proof of ignorance and just being a plain retard.
that stuff is better left to the charger where it still looks dumb but its expected.

Agreed with the above statement overall. A mustang is a muscle car...not a bling machine.

Now if he wants to design HIS OWN vehicle in that way, so be it as we each self identify with different sub groups.

However I think it would be smarter of Ford to retain its integrity to the original concept of the Mustang as they've been doing for decades. Let the individual individualize his car.

a ford dealer in the valley had 3 of these all in a line next to some used gt500's when I went to look at trucks with a friend. The sales guy asked us about them and we let him know how much we hated them.
