I know the picture is of an RTR-C, but the idea itself sounds great.

I think it's interesting that in the name of emissions and economy standards sports cars in general seem to be going 'back to their roots' so to speak. That is to say, smaller, lighter, and with smaller engines. Now I love my V8 muscle cars or I wouldn't own a mustang GT, but this whole "smaller-lighter-lower displacement" thing excites me at the same time. I've always maintained that cars like the Miata, S2000, etc are some of the funnest cars there are to drive and I'm all for more lightweight sports cars in the future.
As long as they can keep the costs in check despite all the fancy tech like carbon fiber.

I highly doubt Ford would increase any of the vehicles 7500 dollars.
We are talking about saving weight of about 200+lbs (depending on the vehicles) and that includes any added weight due to any changes including safety equipment.
We aren't talking about making a Taurus weigh like a Miata here...
