What if it is the next King Cobra

How do you all know this is not a stripped down GT500 with a rear seat delete and X-brace and the battery in the trunk ? Notice the smaller grill to create less drag and the smaller rear spoiler to create less rear drag . It is about time the pure street racers get a streetable Cobrajet Mustang with 580 horsepower. The current drag race only Cobrajets are nice but are not street legal. The track enthusiast got the Boss 302, now the drag fans should get a street and strip Cobrajet.

Hood has gills...

Funny thing, that is the same M-plate, and appears to be the same car I shot a while ago as a Boss 302 mule. I'm more convinced now it's a GT/Boss mule of some type.

I think you are looking at a twin turbo I4???? Haha flame on guys.

Well if it was a boss mule obviously they have reworked it somewhat with a new fascia and there has to be something different under the hood. I could definitely see them hiding a mule for a new SE or an upgrade to the GT or Boss with some GT500 front end bodywork.

Again, I don't know where all this "other SE" rumor starting coming up. I would expect the Boss for 13 to have the same revisions up front that the GT has. So, if this is a Boss 302 mule, it could still have the same powertrain (which I HIGHLY doubt is changed) and have the updated body panels on it.

Where is this SE stuff coming from?

so you really believe the update for 2013 would be a knockoff GT500 front end?

It's a definite possibility. There may be benefits to going with that design vs. the current GT front end. Aero is my first guess.

interesting theory, personally i very much doubt they would do that as the 3 models V6, GT, GT500 are very well differentiated by their individual styling right now and i dont think ford would want to mess with that. plus front end of the GT has been very well received and i dont think they would want to change it that significantly.

who knows though until we see/hear something more definitive its all speculation

I wouldn't be un-offended if the modified GT500 grill made its way on to the GT.

Whats with the double talk?LOL So, you would be offended?

2 Go Snake Apr 28, 2011 10:42 AM

I still think this is a streetable Cobrajet version of the GT500 to be built and offered for sale this summer as a 2012 model. It would just be so easy for Ford to do this for the Drag Race Fans. You know the engineers who worked on the Boss 302 program are not going to stop working on performance versions of the Mustang. I see a streetable Cobrajet with the following hardware :

aluminum one piece driveshaft
lighter weight front seats
air conditioning delete
radio delete
battery in the trunck
lightweight front wheels somewhat narrower than rear wheels
Boss 302 optional differential
rear seat delete with X-brace
track key with drag strip parameters
pully change to GT500 supercharger for 40 hp increase for 5.4 liter engine
There are more drag racers than road racer types. Ford could produce 1500 streetable Cobrajets easily.

Overboost Apr 28, 2011 11:13 AM

It's not a street version of the Cobra Jet.

11SHELBYGT500 Apr 28, 2011 11:27 AM

Captain Obvious says "it's definitely a mustang"

Hahah, I see what I did there. No I wouldn't be offended. Or I am un-offended by this.

That's better.

I don't see that happening. It's going to be too confusing having the next GT with the same front end as the previous GT500. :screwy:

I think it's another GT500KR like someone else mentioned.

There is a problem with this theory. Ford didn't build the KR, Shelby did after the fact. So shouldn't this car be in Nevada?
