What could be causing the P2196 P2198 in my 2014 gt
So in my 2014 Mustang gt at 106k miles I have been chasing an issue regarding a p2196 and a p2198 code they came on a couple of weeks ago and since they were o2 sensor codes I went ahead and changed them, well once I changed them the code popped back up and a new code p061b sending the car into limp mode as soon as I put any load on the engine will rev in neutral fine but as soon as I put it in gear it bogs and jerks well that lead me to change the purge valve as it could cause both of those codes to be coming up so I changed it and I tried to take it down the road and the same thing happened. Where should I go next? Before the original codes came up the car ran fine with the tune should I be concerned about the tune as well?
The rev x bama tuner says the Short term fule trim is running 0.80-0.86 at idle long term fule trim is 1.00 my idle is set at 700 - 750 RPM’s I have cleared the codes went back to stock programming and re tuned it on 93 and my 87 tune MOD list bama 93 octane tune borla atack cat back exhaust boss 302 Intake manifold stock MAF stock CAI 3.31 gear ratio bosh o2 sensors |

I had the oil changed by an oil change place near home because I was crunched for time and needed the oil change they told me I needed a new air filter mine was pretty dirty and as I am running the stock CAI I figured it would be fine to let them replace it because they had an OEM one in stock from what they said I took it out and checked it and the Air filter seemed to be fine and looked OEM
i also run 5w30 and read on a few forums for the 5.0 tick it would help and would definitely be better with the new intake manifold as the actual boss 302 uses a higher weight and most Mustang users go up in oil weight to help with that tick https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/themust...f142f400e7.jpg Current oil level https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/themust...bf8a36aa5c.jpg New air filter |
I Was Thinking You Had a K&N Wet A/F And Possibly Over Oiled. Did You Check Oil Dead Cold Or Had You Just Run it? Overfull Could Cause Issues But From Pic Looks Pretty Close. A Good MAF Clean Would Certainly Not Hurt To Try!
I'm Pretty Sure a Stock Tune is Not Going To Play Nice With Boss 302 Intake Though! Not Sure if You Meant Went Stock Then Changed Again To a Boss Compatible Tune. A Bad Tank of Gas Could Also Cause Havoc. A Can of Fuel Additive Like Some Techron Surely Would Not Hurt! KC |
Checked the oil cold and I definitely generously sprayed the MAF with MAF cleaner
I had it tuned for a boss specific tune when the problem arose I replaced the 02 sensors and purge valve and figured it might be a good idea to return to a stock tune and load up the boss 302 tune again since I wasn’t seeing progress and maybe just maybe the car just wasn’t registering it with the tune idk first tuned car so I didn’t want to skip any step I have some injector cleaner in it currently but that didn’t seem to fix the issue I guess the next route is the MAF would it be wise to go ahead and grab a CAI and calibrated MAF and have them update the tune |
Sounds Like a Good Question For The Tuner. I Have Not Got a Lot of Good Feedback on Here Lately For The Bama Tunes. They Were The Thing Back in My Day. I Had The First GT-500 Tune Back in 07 and Have Been Happy With it. These Days Everybody Likes The Lito Tunes! Just An FYI. If Bama Has Been Doing You Right Your Call!
https://themustangsource.com/forums/...4/#post7089281 Now If The Car Was Running Fine Up To Sometime After The Oil Change it Seems Odd The Tune Would Simply Go South But It Could Happen. Sounds More Like Something Either Failed Electronically or Physically Changed Like a Vacuum Line Torn or Ripped Possibly. And Sometimes For Whatever Reason a Somebody Puts Junk in The Fuel Tank. Kind of Hard With The Capless System Depending on What it Is. Might Look For Any Residue In An Around Filler To Check. Won't Hurt To Look! KC |
Had a Thought. Was Car Exposed To Heavy Rain, Engine Cleaning or Drive Through Car Wash Recently Before Issue Started. If So a Peek For The Water Intrusion Issue on The S-197's Would Not Hurt.

I do regularly wash it through a car wash at my work as I work at a dealership and it’s free to take it through.I’ll take a look on my connections to see if the connections are wet at the pcm and a couple of the connections surrounding the MAF purge valve and o2

Here is a Must Watch For Anybody Who Chases an Electrical Issue. It Really Illustrates Just How Important a Good Clean Connection is and How One Little Wire Can Drive You Crazy. It Gave Me a Whole New Respect For Taking it Slow & Easy on Electrical!

Could a faulty or corroded ground wire cause the pcm to not receive the data from these sensors thus leading to the codes?
I have a little corrosion around the negative battery terminal |

A Solid Electrical Connection is Very Important on These Rolling Computers! Clean Er Up Well & Clear Codes. It's Worth a Shot. I Got Careless One Time & Tried To Changes Tunes in The GT-500 & It Made The Tune Fubar Because The Battery Was Weak after Sitting. I Ended Up Having To Get The Stock Flash Put Back in With a Dealership Tech Friends Help. After That I Was Able To Change Tunes Again. Before It Was Stuck in a Performance Tune Regardless of What I Tried.
Realize After Codes Are Cleared The Computer Has To Go Through a DRIVE CYCLE Before Everything is Settled Again. KC |
So I believe I’m chasing a bad ground. I cleaned up the negative battery terminal and the two grounds on the strut tower now I am looking for ground 104 and 202 which I believe are in close proximity to each other. As this morning, when I cleaned the negative terminal, my subwoofer is way louder than it has ever performed. And in the 2005-2010 mustangs ground 104 202 and 201 are very close. Would those grounds still be in the same place ?
