"Tinny" rattle from passenger door

I've had a "tinny" rattle from the passenger door of my 2011 since I bought the car. (Sounds a bit like aluminum foil vibrating in the door) I'm now at 39k. I've had a someone from my dealership ride in the car with me so I can have him hear the noise, but he attributed it to wind noise. This is definitely not wind noise, and other passengers have also complained about this noise from the door. The problem is that the noise is only heard when driving over 80mph, and no one at the dealership is willing to drive that fast to find the noise. Also, the car is out of warranty now so Ford wound't cover it anymore, even though the noise isn't new. Does anyone know what this sound could be and how I could eliminate it myself?

Speaker most likely. Btw mustangs have all kinds of rattles and noises. It's part of their nature.

I am super noise sensitive when it comes to rattles, squeaks, whistles. It's never ending for me tracking them down. Confusing that it only happens above 80 but I would first check all the fasteners that hold the door panel on are tight. If tight next would be take the panel off and start pounding all over the door and panel to see what makes noise and go from there. Some proper lube on the weatherstripping may be helpful too.

I had the same noise from my driver side door, and I think it was speaker-related too. Only happened over 75. And it mysteriously went away about 1,000 miles before my warranty expired, and hasn't come back since.

Interesting I have had exactly the same on my GT since new. Only occurs over 80 or in high winds. Definitely not speakers - plus mine have been replaced with new units. I have looked under the car and can see nothing. In the end I just live with it but it will be great if someone can identify it so a remedy can be out in place.

Mine is under 3yrs/30K but sadly Ford don't honour their warranty outside US/Canada....

Mine too exactly at 80+. It almost sounds like loose plastic in an air dam or something.

Could it be the air deflector underneath?. After all it's pretty flimsy.

I always thought it was under the car, maybe a barcode tag or something flapping in the wind.

I have looked repeatedly but can't find it. Interesting others have the same symptom. Lets hope someone has an answer.

I need to get someone to drive while i'm in the passenger seat and pinpoint this thing. It is obviously a prevalent issue with our cars.

I hate to bring up an old thread but I have a 2012 GT and I have this same noise at and over 80mph. It doesn't appear to be coming from the door panel and I've replaced the speakers so it's not that. It sounds like the wind is causing it and something is flapping around. I've replaced the cabin filter and cabin filter holder but that wasn't it. Like the others I've looked under the car, in the engine bay, in the space where the cabin filter is...I don't see anything. I really hate to bring it into the dealer since it only happens over 80mph so troubleshooting is next to impossible, they may not even drive it that fast to replicate it, and they may just say it's normal wind noise. It doesn't sound like normal wind noise to me, it sounds like something flapping around. It's odd though that others have the same noise. I don't know if that's good or bad lol I have no idea how long it's been happening because I usually have the radio on. Of course I happened to have it off and heard it and now it's driving me crazy. I'm pretty sure it's from wind since it doesn't happen at lower speeds and bumps don't seem to cause it. Did anyone ever figure out what it was or if it was just normal the way the car is designed? Any info is appreciated! Thanks

I get the same noise at 70+ in my 2010 GT vert. I have no idea where it is coming from.

I can't figure it out either, unless it's inside the dash but then why would wind effect it as opposed to bumps in the road? I'm just trying to ignore it now, but it would be nice to figure out where it's actually coming from.

Now that I think about it. The car I had before the Mustang was a RX-8 and it had a similar sound. The cause was found to be passenger air bag assembly. This was after bringing the car back and forth to the dealer for months. The dealer had to replace it even though it was out of warranty because it was a safety issue.

When I bought my Mustang and started to have the same sound I just did not have that energy to fight the dealer to locate it. I really hope it is not. If you have your car in the shop for this issue, have them look at the air bag.

Thanks for the tip, that's definitely a possibility. If it's doing it on a bunch of cars it could mean there is a defect in the design. I haven't decided if I'm going to bring the car in or not for it yet. I don't know if I want to go through the hassle and possibly be without the car for a few days while they try and track it down, and like you I don't know if I have the energy to be dealing with the dealer for something like this. Something that's easily replicated, sure, but this is a pain to replicate because of the speed.
