Squeaks, rattles from dash

After dealing with a persistant driver's door rattle that finally seems to have been solved by my dealer (although I did pay for some dynamat to be inserted and that may have helped), I now have squeaks and rattles in the dash. I fear this will be never ending. There is a sqeaking sound that comes from the top left part of the dash where the A-pillar and dash meet. It is now daily, although it varies with how loud. Per another thread on this site, I have tried wedging something between the A-pillar and dash, but that doesn't solve it. Although if I place my hand on top of the dash near the A-pillar it seems to soften the sound. I have assumed that this might be due to colder temps (although I do live in Florida) so I have been waiting for warmer weather. However, a few weeks ago we had a really hot day, close to 90, and suddenly it seemed the whole dash was squeaking, something to the far right above the glove compartment was chiming in. So it is not the cold weather plus we have had fairly mild temps recently. Last night, a new sound came from what seemed like the instrument cluster, and this was more of a slight rattle, like something loose. This is a brand new 2012 car with less than 4K miles. It has had rattles/squeaks consistently since day one. My local dealer is terrific on service, in fact the best I have ever dealt with, and he seems to have solved the one in the door. But these dash noises will be hard to isolate, and a few will be hard to duplicate. This is such a disappointment. I read so many posts on here from people who never have any rattles after years of driving. I think it's just the luck of the draw, but my guess is that this car will always have problems but I bought this car with the intention of owning for ten years. I seriously wonder if I can make it ten months. When people ask me how I like it, I tell them "it's great except for the rattles." It is a shame I have to describe it that way. It is a convertible, and some people believe that is why it has so many squeaks. But it is a brand new car, so I am still surprised and wonder what will it be like at 20K. At some point, I will probably take it in to the dealer again, but it spent so much time their the first few months I owned it, I had decided to drive it while before taking it back in. And the thought of them taking the dash apart isn't very appealing. Probably just create more rattles.

I can escalate this for you to your Customer Service Manager, DrDisney. Please, make an appointment with your dealer and PM me with your mileage, VIN, dealer, full name, and best daytime number.

Deysha,
Is my Customer Service Manager you referenced the manager at the local dealer or someone with your team?

Thanks,

John

Yes, my car has same problem. I keep hearing rattle noise from instrument dash at 2000-3000 rpm since day one.

I will ask my dealer's help when I go for my first oil change. My car has only 2500 mile on it now.

I think they fixed it! It was a wire harness under the dash. This was a rattle/buzz that was daily for over a month, so it is great to have it solved. I got the car back yesterday, and so far it is fine. I still have the same intermittent rattle in the driver's door that has been there from day one, but the dash buzzing was far worse, and one I wasn't sure I could live with.

I had a similar squeak and rattle coming from the instrument panel when it was cold that seemed to disappear when it was hot. It turned out the chrome ring around the speedometer was loose on one part and wiggling slightly.

Ford doesn't make replacement rings, so Ford wouldn't cover it if the dealerhship mucked up the job trying to remove or repair them. so the dealership was forced to replace entire panel to have it covered under warranty.

Read my thread here. You may have the same problem. Go around the rings and give the edge a gentle tug and see if there are any loose spots. If there are you'll want it fixed before the warranty no longer covers interior rattles.

Glad to learn this was taken care of for you, DrDisney.

Thanks Moustang. I think you are right. I did notice that when the weather is cold, if I press my finger on the chrome ring of the instrument panel, the rattle noise disappeared. I probably has same problem as you did.

The problem now is since I can't recreate the rattle noises, dealer may not want to service it until the weather gets cold again.

BTW, thanks Deysha, I will definitely PM you when there is any issue arising.

Edit:
Yeah, Moustang, I read your thread and you know what? Even the spot on the ring where we can stop the rattle is exactly same! So your dealer fix it by replace the whole instrument assembly under warranty? This is a little crazy and kind of waste for Ford. My car is only 3 months 4K miles, so if I can't get it fixed now due to the warm weather I still have 2 more years to get it done. Thank you very much man.

No problem.

My car was only 6 months old with just 6,400 miles when they replaced the panel, so I know how you're feeling about that. Seemed like such a waste to replace the whole panel for something that a single drop of glue could fix.

And I think I know how you can reproduce it even in hot weather. You know those first aid cold packs? The ones filled with some blue gel that you put in your freezer? Get one of those, freeze it, and wrap it around the ring for about 15 minutes, and then see if it rattles again. If it does you can tell your dealer to do the same thing and even bring the cold pack with you.

I've got the exact same thing. As soon as I read your post I ran out to the car and, sure enough, my right gauge ring comes up just the slightest

I recommend bringing it in to your dealer and speaking to your service manager about this concern, GBStang13. He is in the best position to ensure a proper diagnosis, and will be able to provide available options and/or coverage for any work needed.

Also, remember most paid repairs done at a Ford Dealer come with a 24 months/unlimited miles warranty. You can schedule an appointment online here.

I had this issue before my 36K Service expired, Is there anyway ford would be able to make an exception for me? I am also having a seat issue, i never adjusted my seat. There seems to be an tech who has to make adjustments on the seat each time he services my car ( not trying to blame anyone ) but now my seat wont go up or down. It be nice if I can get some help in regards to this. Thank you!

I too had Squeaks and Rattles from day, one... Now they have progressed, and its so annoying. After owning 3 Mustangs 01, 97 and 2013, one thing I like about these cars they were much better design. Well guess that did not last, I got an appointment this upcoming Monday the 28th. I am a sad disappointed that if I have to pay out of pocket for this fix... On top of that I took my car for an oil change on the 7th and now my seat does not go up or down. It worked right before i took it in... I never adjusted it since the day i bought the car, the only time its adjusted is my service tech from the dealer. I am 1000 Miles over my 36K. The car is not even 3 years old + I bought it with 4K miles... Something has to be done. Deysha hopefully you can escalate this for me... Its going to San Tan Ford, I can PM you my VIN and Milage.
