Slight exhaust pop occasionally

Ok, I can't hear the sound but my mechanic buddy can. When just ideling he swears he hears a faint occasional pop, like the sound of a burnt valve. Does anybody have any clues or is this normal for the new 5.0s?

My truck does it and my moms mustang does it. It's just the metal heating up.

No, it's not the heating up sound. From what he said it sounds like I have a burnt valve or a valve not sealing. It's like a very quiet backfire.

So....take it to the dealer or have your mechanic friend fix it.

I think I know what your talking about. I definitely think that its nothing. Pretty much every 5.0 I've heard when started in a cold start makes that very faint stutter sound. Mine does it when at idle during a cold start. Goes away just down the block. Nothing to worry about in my opinion.

I noticed my v6 did the same thing during the winter when i would start it up once in a while in storage..almost seemed like a miss...would stop after a short while and runs great so not going to worry about it.

First thing, it happens well after startup. But like you guys I think it's normal as well. Now for the second part, it's pretty flipping rude for me to catch hell just for asking a question on a subject that I know little about.

If you have nothing "helpful" to say I think it is time for you guys to keep your comments to yourselves and move on.
