Question Concerning Exhaust Fumes
I have a 2014 Mustang 3.7 with 3800 miles on clock. When accelerating at
full throttle, like passing a few cars or merging on highway to maybe 80 to 100mph, I get a very noticeable odor of exhaust fumes in the cabin. I usually am running the A/C in "max cool", which is in the recirculation mode. The car is 100% stock...I can not see any problems with the trunk gaskets/seals.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how is exhaust gas getting inside and what is the cure?
I am concerned that I may be getting exhaust gas in the cabin under normal driving and I am not aware of it.

When you do a hard pull, the a/c compressor shuts off automatically at a certain rpm. Not sure if this causes the interior venting to change but I would try the same driving with the vents on off to see what you smell. I have bad exhaust odors but they are always from cars ahead of me.

this heat/humidity, I will try some hard pulls with the duct work in each mode
and see what happens. I wasn't aware that Ford had a cutout for the A/C
compressor....I have turned if off in the past when doing high RPM's.
BTW...with your GT it would be easy to put those bad smelling cars that are ahead of you, behind you real quick......well, unless its a cop car. lol
I notice my '13 3.7 engine kinda smells after its been used a bit hard. Not so much high speed, but high RPM so should be about the same. It is kind of a strong "electrically" burnt insulation smell, maybe like oil burning but I'm more familiar with hot electrical stuff so that's what I think of, noticeable when outside the car but not inside (I drive with the windows open whenever not raining). Nothing's burning as far as I can see lol, just smells like it. I have way less miles than you even...it's just a stinky engine when hot.

could be the high heat the engine makes when under full power(?)
The new exhaust manifold, header pipe,etc.....humm ..good thought.
I would rather it be something like that then to have exhaust gasses getting into cabin while driving.
^ I just had another thought: maybe the "insulation burning" smell that it seems like to me is actually just a very hot plastic/composite engine part smell. I'm not used to "plastic" engine parts, and it's probably normal, but I notice it a lot more in the summer (makes sense if it's heat-related). It's also a smell I'm very sensitive to because of my work...means something is going very wrong (at work)...
I have a 2014 Ford Mustang GT that currently has 5502 miles on it and I also have smelled exhaust fumes in the cabin at high RPMs. It seem like this just started and I did not notice it until now. I plan on taking my car into the dealership tomorrow to have it checked.

Anyone else get this?
I also have a 2014 v6 with 5000 miles that has terrible exhaust fumes inside car any time you get on it. It does it with windows closed with inside air on recirculate. Bought car new and has stunk since day one. Ford claims nothing is wrong. Is anyone out there that wants to join me in a class action suit, let me know. If this can`t be resolved I`m going back to GM products.

Hmmmm... also found this for what its worth: http://www.ehow.com/how_5622340_elim...s-mustang.html
Also.. In looking around the internet I found that the mustang isn't the only vehicle that has this issue. There are other individuals with VW's, Mini Coopers, Dodge Charges .. etc.. So.. it must be in the way there are manufacturing cars now. Probably cheap header gaskets is my thought....

The smell after hard acceleration is completely normal,
I've had 5 of these cars with the 5.0 since 2010 ( when the 11s came out ). They've all done the same thing and it goes away around 15k miles. ( something breaks in ).
It's not exhaust fumes. It's something hot, like the cats. Don't worry about it. If you take it to a dealer and talk to a tech that never had one of these cars before, you'll either be punted or they will try and replace a bunch of random parts because they will 'guess' at the "problem" and your car will be in the shop for nothing. You don't want any of that. You don't want a bunch of people you don't know messing with your car for nothing. My cars usually come out with a scratch or two after service.
@Speedy, the issue from the idling you're commenting on is a different issue all together. I was idling at the carwash the other day and mine smelled pretty strong. I don't think it's an issue though, my 2014 is hardly broke in at 2600 miles. Heck, I've only gunned it like once. It just needs to be used.

Well I have a 2014 with the 3.7 I bought it when it had 20k miles. The car now has almost 30k miles and is basically bone stock with the exception of a borla exhaust. I have noticed an odor with mine when I get on it as well. I have had 3 mustangs my oldest one was a 93gt with no cats and the smell is similar.
