Angry Please help failed map installation

I made what turns out to be a huge mistake. I need help.

I ordered the new map from syncmyride.com and I got it last night. I had read through the instructions, but still I started the map installation first by mistake.

I realized what I had done and I contacted someone at the HERE site where you purchase the disc set and told them what I had done. They told me to eject the disc, turn the car off and then insert disc 1 of the software set.

Well that didn't work. it only asks for disc 2 now and rejects any disc that is inserted. meanwhile nothing else works but climate control.

I called my Ford dealer service department and they said to bring it in and they wold look at it. They have never (as far as he knew) seen this before.

So is anyone here has had experience with this sort of thing please advise.

I know there are Ford reps on here, maybe one can give me some advice.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi mhazelwd,

I wish I had a work around for you, but your dealer is in the best position to help. Let me know how it goes!

well, just got the bad news. Dealer told me mine is the second one that has come in like that. Have to replace the shaker 1000 w/sync for $1150. My car isn't under warranty.

I take responsibility for the error, but a mistake in installation that will kill your equipment is rare I think. My service writer agrees somewhat. It says 'caution' but should say straight out that it will destroy your equipment if done wrong. It should also state your dealer will install it for you if you want. just my opinion.

anyway water under the bridge and car should be fixed tomorrow

Sorry to hear that, Mark! If you'd like to troubleshoot the issue further, please contact HERE either by phone or online:

You can also get a second opinion. Here's a link to find other Ford dealers near you:

Don't give that dealer a single cent until you get another opinion. A software issue trashing hardware? Unlikely.

Agreed. Sounds a bit fishy to me.

I don't have much faith in the software developers who write that stuff. The installation disk should check to see if the prerequisite disks have been installed before attempting to load the current disk.
