Very bad, Ford. Are you listening?
If it comes back I see a Cervini hood in my future. I have to say, even with all its stupid faults and the complaining I have done here and at the dealer, its still one effin awesome car.

Yes it is.

Because I love the car, I have had a higher tolerance for the issues with it. If it were just daily transport, I'd have dumped it.

Curiously, other than the hood issue which showed up after warranty, my 05 was completely bullet proof, and still is with 160 000 km on it. My 2012 not so much.

How is this still a problem?

I had a Miata that went 250,000 miles in all weather (and salt exposure) with an aluminum hood that showed no signs of bubbling or aluminum rust at all.

What is Ford going to do with the all aluminum F-150?

My car is going in June 3 for a new hood. Hopefully I don't see this again but probably will in 2 - 3 years.

You still under the 3/36 warranty?

Why is this still a problem? My 05's hood looks like crap and there is not a fleck of bubbling anywhere else on the car! Come on, Ford ...
I bought my 2011GT/CS last month with only 13k miles on it. The coyote engine brought me back to Ford after 20 years being away. Why did I swear them off 20 years ago? Because they rusted away long before anything could wear out.

Now I see that my hood is all bubbled on the front edge and underneath. I bought the car from my brother and I know it was kept in a heated garage. So I go to the dealer to open a claim and I find out that the car is over three years old, so too bad, Ford wins. I have to give them credit, they have hubris. As long as the customer doesn't notice in three years..."oh well." A tech at the dealer says they get 30+ corrosion claims every year. Liftgate on the SUVs included.

The F150 will be mostly aluminum? OMG, their paint process is way out of control and now they're just pressing on. Non American car companies have been using aluminum for years without this problem, I think Ford isn't quite ready to run with the big dogs yet.

I keep telling myself I didn't pay for quality build, I paid for the 400+ HP and awesome styling. So its a bargain, right? Right? I feel butthurt.

Its not worth it to me. Never again. When the body falls off in another 5 years, I'll transplant the drivetrain into one of my Audis.

That's my rant. I don't know how you die hard Ford guys justify the sloppy build.

PS. The license plate just screws into the plastic bumper? How many time can you do that before the holes get stretched out?

Got my car back today. They replaced the hood. They also replaced the 3M rock chip protector I had on as well.

Here's to hoping I get more than 3 years out of this hood.

So I was looking at my hood today and noticed there is bubbling in the paint towards the bumper. It's a 2012 with 53000 on it. Is there anything the dealer can do?

You'd have to go to the dealer to find out, T.

Your best bet is going to be starting with your dealer, then escalating it to the regional customer service person for Ford in your area. Deysha can help with that, if you want. Unfortunately, the 3/36 warranty is all that covers the paint, unless it "perforates" which is covered under a 5/60 warranty. However, Ford knows this happens more than it should on multiple vehicles, as Bruch said above (Expedition tailgates happen a lot too). I'm in the midst of doing that now and will post what's happened with my car once I have something more concrete.

You should speak with the service manager at your Ford Dealer, tthompson79. He is in the best position to ensure a proper diagnosis, and will be able to provide available options and/or coverage for any work needed.

You can schedule an appointment online here. Let me know the outcome.

Ford sent my car out about a year ago per my comment above to get the hood painted at their local paint shop and I got it back the next day and they did a fantastic job and I have had no issues with it at all..
very pleased with Ford and my warranty is out now except the drivetrain warranty and I still have a 5 yr/unlimited mileage rust throught on the car.
