Hard shifting into first

Does anyone else have the problem that if they are slowing down to a stop sign and try to shift into first that you really have jam it hard to engage the gear? If i wait until im at a complete stop its fine to shift into but if im slowing down and try to shift into first at about 5-10 mph i have to push extremely hard to get it into the gate (keeping the clutch open all the way to a full stop, just cheating and getting into gear so i don't have to sit at the stop sign)

i wouldnt shift into first if im only doing 5-10 mph... use 2nd gear. I only put it into first if im completely stopped.

Im slowing down on my way to a complete stop at a stop sign. As i am slowing down to full stop at a stop sign i shift into first with the clutch depressed until i reach a standstill (not engaging the gear, just putting it into the gate), so then when i am completely stopped i just let out the clutch and get back on the gas to start driving from the stopsign. Im not downshifting as i am not using engine braking, i am just putting into the gate for first without engaging as i am slowing down instead of coming to a complete stop, shifting to first, and then driving.

Have you tried giving the throttle a quick blip to mimic a downshift, without actually letting the clutch out to engage?

Yea i tried doing it like a heel-toe downshift but didn't really change anything, still have to jam it. I talked to the dealership before and they said put more miles on it. I've done 1000 miles so far, talked to them at 300

try double clutching when going into first, should make it easier to get it in

I have found that if I wait for the engine rpms to drop to close to an idle, it will slip in 1st easier while still rolling. Just the delay for the rpm drop seems long.

Yeah that's the only way i can do it right now. And they really do seem to fall slow, especially at WOT and then going for a clean shift instead of chirping the tires.

I do double clutch when i heel-toe. Thats how I learned. btw its a pain in the @$$ trying to heel-toe with these stock pedals. Soo far apart compared to the other two cars ive done it in. Definitely considering replacing them with a gas pedal that has a lip on the left side to close it up some.

Why would you even do this ? With the 3.73s, you don't need to go to 1st unless
you are planning to roast the tires....
I seldom use 1st gear unless I feel like playing a bit.

I don't start in first all the time (Ive done 2nd and 3rd) but most of the time I do, its just what I'm used to...

Mine does the same thing. Weirdest thing too. It happens to me when I'm coming up to an intersection and making a right, and while I'm approaching the turn I'll brake to almost a complete stop (barely rolling) and it becomes difficult. Probably should just use second since I already downshift to second when making turns and still rolling.

I suspect that silly oem bracket is up to this. Considering changing to a JHR shifter mount bracket anyway in the future.

I checked some more this am....it just seems to be related to the fall of the engine rpm....and that does not drop fast plus it appears to be tied to vehicle speed. I ran the car to 50 mph, placed shifter in neutral, and watched the rpm....took a long time for it to drop....as the car slowed....the rpm dropped also.

Same experience here. I know exactly the feeling, where I want to go into first but all of a sudden it is really hard to get into the gate. I sometimes even shift to second then to first to make sure I'm on the same plane - and then I can get into 1st.

Even rolling your not supposed to be able to put the car in the gate unless your only doing like 5 mph. In every manual car I've driven its been like that.

Mine is the same way. I have the 1st to 2nd gear notchiness as well. The dealership performed the TSB with the Dual clutch fluid and the notchiness is better but still present. Im with the other poster. Most of the time i takeoff in 2nd unless im going uphill or really need to get up and going quickly. I have the 3:73's as well.

Yeah I've started taking off in second now. Im also going to be adding the MTL Redline fluid to mine.
