Cold shifts...

I just turned 10k, Bought the car used (about 3 months ago)..

Now the cold weather is approaching.. I get out and start it up and let it warm up a bit (until the idle drops to or below 1000rpm.

I noticed when I start driving.. if I shift about 2500rpm.. it's kind of clunky in 2nd and 3rd gears (2nd is louder and clunkier then 3rd)...if I shift at 2500 or less.. it's smooth..
As the car warms up just a few miles.. it seems to smooth out..

Any thoughts.....

Is this considered to be normal ?

Pretty normal for me when it's cold. I just double clutch the first couple of shifts and then shift slowly for a couple more. Can't really shift too fast when the tranny oil is still cold. From what I've always heard this is a common thing for manual trannys.

Hi voyager 1700,

Congrats on your new ride! I recommend you bring it in to your Ford dealer and have them look at it. If you need further assistance or have any questions, please PM me with your dealer, VIN, mileage, and contact info so I can help/escalated if needed.

Hey Deysha.. Thanks for looking at this.. I was hoping NOT to take it to the dealership.. 1st is I'll be without a car for the day.. Not too big of a deal, but I do have a tune done to the car.. I'm under the impression.. I'll have to remove the "tune" and return the car to stock before bringing it in?

You will have to speak to your Ford dealer about this, voyager_1700. If they put it on and that is not what's causing your concern, you should be fine. However, give them a call first.

As you can se I live in South Dakota. It was -1 F one morning last week, and we had 11" of snow. The car shifted fine; however, I had the TSB fluid change done in Oct. Last winter, I would let it warm up, and then double clutch or start in 2nd to get smooth shifting, until she warmed up. The fluid change has really helped, so you may want to consider it.
