So I just brought my 2014 SGM into Ford for some upgrades and I pointed out the paint issues under the hood and engine bay. They said it is the first time they have seen it, but agreed that it's ridiculous that it's happening - I got her in June, new and only have 1500 miles on her. They took lots of pictures and will be sending them to Ford. I have about 5 spots that need to be dealt with. I was assured that they will take care of this problem immediately. My dealership is Friendly Ford in Poughkeepsie, NY. I will keep everyone updated on my status.

 

It just goes to shows that there are "good" dealerships out there in the world. Please post if they follow thru and good luck.

Do not accept a repaint of the hood. I have the same issue and Ford authorized a new hood. New is important because the issue tends to come back with repainted hoods.

I have this same problem. My car is out of the 3/36 warranty and it's at ford right now for a transmission and brake issue and they noticed the hood corrosion as well. I knew of one spot but didn't think it was all that bad but opening the hood and further inspection noted a bunch more small areas of it. They are notifying ford and documenting it. Question is, since I'm out of the 3/36, it definitely won't be covered I assume? I would want a new hood also does anybody know how much that would run me if I request it?

 

I argued for a new hood and my dealership said "repaint or nothing." It's been about 6 months with no re-occurrence.

 

Tony what kind of paint issues do you have? I ma going to the dealer this week for some really bizarre issues as well.

 

I have about 5 spots were the paint is bubbling/blistering. Since there's no rust, they are telling me that sanding, then repainting the areas will solve the problem. They are not offering a new hood. Some people on this forum have said the problem has come back - they are guaranteeing me that I won't. If it does, then I will demand a new hood.

 

You will need to speak with your service manager, as he is in the best position to ensure a proper diagnosis, and will be able to provide available options and/or coverage for any work needed, Mug-stang.

Hey everyone. My car is at the shop for a slave cylinder issue and to check the brake bias in front brakes. When the service manager and my advisor popped my hood, they noticed a bunch of paint bubbling underneath the hood and were obviously concerned. They said they would contact ford and see what they could do since I'm out of the 3/36 warranty.

Today I heard from my service manager about it and he said he was pushing for a new hood and got ford to supply a new hood and cover around 800 dollars for the hood and paint but leave me with 530 dollars to pay. My question: is this covered under a 5 year 60000 warranty? Am I getting a good deal? I'm educated somewhat on this problem because I've researched it the past couple days and I am genuinely happy that I'm getting a new hood out of it to hopefully get it prepped better than them sanding it, but I feel like this isn't really my problem and the service manager even knows a bunch of mustangs have this problem. Should I push to get it free of charge completely or is it a lost cause since I'm out of 3/36? Either way im going to try but I just want to see everyone's thoughts on the 530 I'll maybe have to pay.

To the guys that said their dealers will only sand: wow. My service manager is the one PUSHING for a new hood because he KNOWS it comes back and people that get it repainted, if they don't sell the car, go back after a while with the same problem. This guy seems to be taking care of me big time. If only he can get ford to pay for the whole thing. You gotta say something about other dealers knowing exactly what's wrong and that a new hood is the only answer.

 

ask what their warranty is on a repaint- they will likely get very scared as many-if not most- will pop up again in 1~2 years... maybe they can 'deal'.

alternately, offer to take the new ford supplied hood to a buddy that will paint it for you...let them 'install' it bare, just see what they say...if they aint painting, would be hard to charge more than 1/2 hur to 'install', take the rest of the 800 and get it painted elsewhere...

i'm cheap. would like to know what the 'real' numbers are- maybe Deysha can find out details of what ford 'pays' for a repaint on a new hood- if its 800, maybe the dealers just trying to get some extra? would certainly expect repaint cost to be less than repair/repaint- the underside is easy, and no labor really...

Im going in on Friday to have them look at all my paint issues. I have been hesitant to have them look at it as I have 5 spots all over the car. With so many spots It almost will be a repaint. I thought Ford spent millions on a new high tech paint area for the Mustangs. This is the worst paint job out of my many new cars I have ever seen. Not only that but my to Front Fenders you can see the the forming line in the paint... Terrible.

When I talk to my service manager today about my transmission Im going to ask him what the full charge of the hood and repaint will be and tell him that 530 is too much for me to pay. Honestly, bottom line, since there has been so many problems with this, I shouldn't have to pay anything. Part of me is glad that he went ahead and told ford I needed a new hood because I thought he was going to tell me sand/paint would be enough/all ford wants to do, but another part of me thinks 530 is way too much to be charged for a serious issue in regards to painting aluminum hoods in several hundred or thousand occurrences.

No such thing, ford4v429. All of them are reviewed on a case by case basis, so there is no concrete amount or info I can provide on this.
