2014 GT Ticking Starting at 135k Miles
Hello all,
I have had my 14' Mustang GT for about a year now and have put around 12k miles on it. I have always changed the oil every 5k miles with Mobil 1 5W-20 Full Synthetic High Mileage Oil. I recently changed the oil around 100 miles ago. I did a small pull (nothing near hitting the redline and only going up to around 60mph) then I noticed a ticking sound when I was parking at my destination. It was not consistent and would be off and on while at idle. I let the car sit for a while before I turned it back on and the ticking was gone. I then went straight back to my house and noticed it happening at lower rpms when pulling in. Started it up for a little bit this morning but no ticking.
Does anyone know if this is an issue I should get looked into or is it possible that it is the classic coyote tick?
Thank you!

A Vid With Good Sound Quality Would Be very Helpful For Opinions!
I Would Say at 135K Things Starting To Make Noise Would Not Be Unusual But Certainly Worth a Little Investigating!

I believe the Gen 2 Coyote came out the following year in 2015. I definitely will see what KC says about the vin. I have drove it a little since then and it still only happens from time to time while idling at regular temp. Thank you so much!

Man, I find these high mileage posts very encouraging when I see the engines lasting so long. I would say I have some life left in my 13,000+ miles '14 GT.

Now that you mention it, I think you're right about gen 2 coming out the following year in 2015 which would make the most sense, knowing 2015 was also the debut of the new S550 platform...
Yeah, I would say so, as you have quite a bit of life left with just 13k miles on your "14" GT LOL.

I suppose for us 3v S197 owners, the gen 1 coyote from 2011-14 would be the most compatible and least expensive option for considering an engine swap... Now that it's been confirmed the S197 4.6L PCM won't operate the charge motion valves in the gen 2 pretty much rules out reusing the older S197 3v PCM and therefore would require either retrofitting the Coyote gen 1 intake manifold or purchasing the more expensive gen 2 intake... As quoted below, swapping to the gen 2 Coyote engine will also require reusing the gen 1 cams or upgrade to aftermarket gen 1 cams and possibly having to reuse gen 1 phasers as well...
All in all, IMHO, not only would a gen 2 Coyote swap be more expensive over gen 1, but would also be far less compatible without at least requiring quite a bit of part retrofitting between gen 2 and gen 1 in order to make it all work properly...
In order to use the Gen 2 you will have to reuse either your Gen 1 cams or get a set of Gen 1 aftermarket cams which will probably require limiters. I am not sure if you have to reuse the Gen 1 phasers or not, but you probably do. You can use either intake, but there isn't any power advantage to the Gen 2 and the 197 PCM won't operate the charge motion valves in the Gen 2. The Gen 1 will fit but requires a little grinding for clearance.
