I bought the 2011 GT used about 3 months ago with 15k miles on it, so far it has overheated 3 times, the first time the Ford dealer put a water pump in it under warranty, the warranty expired and it overheated on two more occasions, Ford can't figure out whats wrong with it. The first time it overheated was at idle, the second time was coasting, and the third was on the highway. My thought is its the thermostat, but Ford checked and said it was fine. Has anyone else had a similar issue? Car has 19k on it now

 

Replace the thermostat. Thats your best bet, sounds alot like it

 

This will sound dumb but might be worth a try. I had a similar issue when I owned a 300zx. I changed everything in the cooling system and kept overheating. A guy at a bar overheard me talking about the issue and said to change my radiator cap. Lol, it worked and my car was a champ after that.

 

That's the first thing I always check when there's over heating issues that aren't obvious. A weak radiator cap lets the pressure in the system drop, which lowers the boiling point of the coolant.

 

Lol, me too. Now. Maybe you were the guy in the bar that saved my cars life. I was thinking of getting rid of it at that point.

 

Could have been, I've spent a hell of a lot of time in bars through the years.

 

Would the thermostat cause it to overheat intermittently? Each time has been about a month apart.

 

Could be the temperature sensor that tells 'when' the electric radiator cooling fans should kick on. I would change the radiator cap and thermostat first.

 

Sounds like the thermostat should be changed/ the temperature sensor, perhaps?

 

Ok, replaced the thermostat Wednesday. But like I said earlier, each time was about a month apart, so I guess I'll be back if it does it again. Thank You

 

are you sure the car wasnt tuned, and might require higher octane gas? ever hear it pinging at all?

 

The car is overheating again, water pump, thermostat, and fan assembly have been replaced with OEM parts. Only seems to do it when it's hot out and the A/C is on and vehicle is not moving. Once I get moving it cools down. Any ideas?

 

Thermistor for the cooling fan or fan is stopping prematurely

this is an old thread, no activity since 2016, so you probably won't get a response from the OP

but this is a fairly common issue and we probably can help -- I guess you already searched the old threads to find this one; I'd suggest you do that again because there are more (use the forum search, top right)

one basic troubleshooting suggestion: If the car overheats when sitting still but not while it is moving, that is a giveaway that the fan is not working -- fan is needed to keep air flowing across the radiator when the car is sitting still, but generally not needed when the car is moving because the air flows across the radiator without the fan

I'd suggest you might want to start your own new thread on this; or maybe find a more recent existing thread to join

 

Did you look over the other threads in the repair and service help sub forum section? I'd take a look at them and find out if other posters have encountered similar issues...
