About a week ago, I upgraded from a '07 V6 Mustang w/ AT to a '14 V6 Mustang AT. When I test drove the car, I fell in love with it and had to have it. Something that I've noticed is there is an occasional slight pause when accelearating, usually in 3rd gear. I have less than 500 miles on the car. Is this normal?

 

Yup, the hesitation is common on the automatic cars.

 

Yep, normal. A performance tuner will take care of that concern of the slight pause.

 

Yes, the throttle on the 2011+ Mustangs is "drive by wire." - meaning that the throttle position is sensed by the computer and the computer decides what to command the engine to do. Sometimes the ECU (Engine control unit/computer) inserts momentary delay before deciding how much throttle to call for. Just about all of the aftermarket ECU tunes, including the Ford Racing Performance Products tune will eliminate almost all of the instances of throttle delay. The aftermarket tunes help other issues, including low end torque, peak HP and transmission responsiveness.

 

I have this issue as well. Mine is a 2011 V8 auto and as others have stated I figured it was b/c it was an auto car. Glad to find out its not just my car and was going to post about it eventually. The only difference is my hesitation is mostly if I almost come to a stop then then accelerate. No response to the petal to a point then its off she goes. Was planning to go the tuning route when I could.

 

Funny you mention that about your v8. I know exactly what your talking about because I test drove a auto 2013 Gt. The throttle response was really delayed compared to my tuned 11 V6. I really noticed that hesitation at traffic lights when stopped as you speak of. A tune will take care of that problem for ya. Lol

You mention it happening in third. Is this a 'select shift' gear?

 

Actually no. It's not immediate when I hit the gas to accelerate. Is during acceleration. Like a half-second pause during acceleration.

 

Ohh alright I'd imagine that's just the auto tranny doing it's thing then. A tune would firm up the shift points a bit, but I don't know if you're trying to go that route.

 

That began with the 05. I don't think the SN95's had it. My 08 is.

 

So I finally broke down and went to the service department. The service manager test drove the car, noticed the same thing I was talking about, and put it on the rack. He ran a test that shows the shifting, rpms, etc. then came back and said it's completely normal and part of the "shift strategy" of the car. He compared it to another Mustang on the lot and said they were identical. I guess it's something I will have to get used to. At least my mind is clear.
