Windshield tint...yay or nay?

From what I've read, ppl who have their windshields tinted have nothing but positive things to say about it. On past cars I've always had 5% all around with a 8" or 10" strip on the windshield. How does full windshield tint affect night driving...and what about brake tags? Any feedback is much appreciated

Idk about everywhere but i know for sure here in texas theres a rule that prevents full windshield tinting. The AS1 line you see marked on the windshield is the limit for how low you can get the brow tinted on the glass. As for all the other windows ive ridden in cars with 5% sides and back glass and it got pretty dark on the backroads.

And what do you mean by brake tags?

The legality of the tint is not my biggest concern. I've had countless tint tickets, that's just the price you pay to play right? If the brow tint stayed above that legal line (4 inches I'm guessing), it wldnt be worth doing at all.

Brake tag lol...I guess that must be Louisiana terminology for inspection sticker. Do you leave a section of the windshield untinted in order to scrape off the old sticker for the new one every couple years? Is this even done in other states?? I love LA but we are admittedly a little...lets say..."off"

Here in Florida it's illegal to tint the front windshield. I had mine done anyway using 3M Crystalline 70. Front doors are 3M Crystalline 40. I did it more for the UV/IR heat rejection than darkness. Unless you know what you're looking for, you can't even tell it's tinted. As for the state inspection sticker, I'm not sure how you'd handle that one...

I've got mine tinted. I can't stand the look of a car that has different shades of tint based on window

Anyway, I recommend it. Sunglasses generally become optional and headlights no longer blind you. The only problem I have is the factory ceramic dots near the rearview mirror. Tint shops won't put tint over top of it because it won't stick so it looks tacky.

If you have problems seeing at night I would not recommend. Traffic lights appear blurry but its all manageable.

Not only is it illegal... it's stupid and silly. If the sun is so sensitive to you that you feel you need to tint the Window that you stare out of then you don't need to be driving. Your asking to run someone over at night because the tint hid him from view.

Sure, if you have 5% tint. I'm not blind and light sensitivity is something everyone eventually suffers from. I could go get a doctor to write me a prescription for tinted windows if I wanted.

I drive 90% in the burbs. If you get hit by a car it's your fault

Do you mean that strip of tint that goes over your top windshield visor area? Tinting your entire window is beyond dangerous and illegal.

This ^. I have 5% all around (minus WS) on my '95 and cant see chit at night trying to back up. I have to roll down my windows just to see behind me. Sure it looks great but impractical to say the least. I cant imagine 5% all around PLUS the WS.

My tint job is an antique, it was on before I had it, whoever did mine put the tint on the dots, and there are air bubbles in it now...

If I'm driving on sidewalks and mowing down pedestrians it's not cuz I had a lil 80% on the ws...more bc I had 80 proof in my cup.

I had the visor brow tint on my 06 which also has the dots...my installer did a 1 piece strip which came below the dots about 1.5". It never bubbled up, yet it never properly adhered to the dotted area. That didn't matter bc there was enough tint below the dots to keep it all intact.

Backing up at night...a little tricky yes. But loud enough exhaust blurbs warn most able bodied folks to gtf out of the way.

Anyway, I'm leaning against the potential hassles of the ws tint...me no likey the blurry. The 5% and a sunshade for the ws will do. I like the fact that nobody can see inside when the sunshade is up..day or night. Proved that in a restaurant parking lot one evening with an ex lady friend.

Not stirring the pot but "entire" front window? Never heard of such a thing.

You should do a little research on "pedestrians have the right of way"

I had my windshield tinted on my Corvette and will do the same for my Mustang. To me, its no different than if someone was driving with sunglasses at night (cue Corey Hart song) except that the windshield wouldn't be nearly as dark. I go with 50%.

As you can see by the second picture, it isn't as dark as people think it is.

My front window is tinted and yes I can see quite well. I have it on to keep the car cool when it parked. If you lived in Miami you would understand why.

I have my sides at the legal limit, and the back 30% or whatever Ford uses on their cars. My front is the lightest possible, but since I went with the good stuff, its more to block the uv rays and such instead of trying to have a blacked out car.

You cannot not even tell its tinted unless you look at it a certain way...I been pulled over only once, and lol the shapely LEO admitted she wanted to "talk" and used my windshield as a excuse.....WHAT !?

Ok, so it's possible to pick up shapely women using windshield tint as an icebreaker? I'm back on board with this now
