I purchased a set of halo headlights and fog lights. I don't want to connect them to the running lights, but I would rather connect them to a switched power source so they come on all the time when the car is switched on (kinda like daytime running lights).

I took apart the underhood power distribution box and probed that, but it seems that these fuses get power prior to being switched - so I don't think I can use one of those.

In looking at the fuse panel in the passenger footwell, there are a couple of possible sources, including the accessory delay #1. Has anyone tapped into one of these circuits?

Any advice or suggestions on a good source of switched 12v power would be greatly appreciated!

 

I used an "add a tap" to pull from the open slot #13 in the passenger footwell fuse panel for a switched source.

 

They have those for the 2010?? Oh wait, your sig says 2007

 

I've used a splice in adapter in the passenger footwell, but I don't recall which wire. I guess you could always just guess at one...that's what I did, and it worked out on the first try.

 

This is why voltmeters were invented. Just sayin'. You can get a cheap multimeter for $25 at advance auto. Then, well first you learn how to use it (google "how to use a multimeter"), but after that, probe empty fuses to heart's content. And delight in your newfound electrical troubleshooting ability.

I just kinda assumed that that an unused circuit wouldn't even be wired or active. Slot #13 is an unused switched circuit - perfect for use. For some reason, I had to go to several local auto stores before I finally found one that carried and/or had in stock the mini "add a circuit" tap, but once I found that, I was good to go.

I ended up adding a small toggle at the bottom edge of the dash in the center. The dash has a tab with a hole in it already, so no car modifications are needed. It is easily accessible if desired, but out of the way and not readily visible. I was going to add a switch to the headlight panel, but decided against modifying it since I couldn't find a switch that I thought looked OEM and would fit well.

Now my halos turn on/off with the ignition (no other lights need to be on). If I want to override and turn them off, I just flip the switch to the off position. Nice!
