Updating the map data Next Gen. Nav

Hey, anybody know the file format the map data needs to be in ?

I got my hands on a European Navtech DVD and was able to extract the data, anyone know if it is possible to upload that on the Next-Gen-Nav?

The files are in .kwi-format... the most interesting one seems to be the "loading.kwi" ...

Thanks for any input,
Ben.

Anyone?

Update from me: Just inserting the European Nav-DVD does not work...

Well, worth a try...

Thanks Jason for pointing me in that direction...

I looked through there but it seems like no one really knows how the maps are updated at all... I gonna go to a Hifi/Navigation shop this or the following weekend to see what their take is on that...

Because it is quite complicated. Also after months of hard work and frustration I have decided to offer a full solution and all of the details are not sorted out. I do have it installed and working but integrating audio over factory radio speakers and retaining the reverse camera is another challenge. I do not want to switch between the 2 sources (camera and Nav map) but there is only one video input into the system. I have a good idea of how to resolve this but it adds another $80 to the price. For me I don't mind but if I decide to sell a kit as a solution it can get pricey.

If you do not have the factory rear view camera or want to install another trunk spoiler anyhow it gets very easy and cheaper.

Basically it involves such a device:

http://www.clarion.com/gb/en/product...414933687.html

Integrating this device into the system and retaining all features of the vehicle while having the ability to access this nav system with the 43 European countries. I also have a map solution for the entire world

There is additional hardware involved as well. We just have to determine who wants to buy in and I will arrange parts (entire kit) at a huge discount........and my install fee. LOL

Navigation features of the NP509E:
Navigation
  • 3D display mode for: 3D city maps, 3D landmarks, 3D petrol stations, 3D elevation map
  • Simple mode / Advanced mode
  • Free TMC traffic information
  • Signpost information
  • Lane information
  • Rich POI database
  • Trip computer
  • Speed limit information
  • Safety camera compatible
  • 32 programme languages
  • Pre-recorded voices for voice guidance: 38 Languages
  • TTS Voices: 11 Languages /21 voices
*Speed camera warning systems may be prohibited in some countries.
*3D information is not available everywhere.

Excellent, I'd like to get this when you figure out the audio over factory speaker issue. I don't have a camera doubt if I get one. Not a problem for me to drive to Germany, unless it's snowing, I got the Brembo package with summer tires. Besides, I have a lot of friends in the Heidelberg/Mannheim area. I'm not scheduled to come that way until July '11, but might can arrange a special trip, and of course pay your install fee.

I was only joking about the install fee. A six pack of beer from Macedonia will be fine. I like to help my fellow stangers. I will travel to the USA for work next week and once I return I will initiate a group purchase on multiple forums for the alternative Map fix. The audio will not be very difficult. It's just not very easy to access the rear of the "radio" or audio module.
