Subwoofer Suggestions

Hey guys,

I've been looking to put some subs in my car. I don't know much about speakers so I need some input from you guys. I listen to rap a lot, so I want something that will have a lot of bass.

I found these on crutchfield. They have good reviews and they seem to do pretty good for their price.

Sub:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_777B24/...Sound+Ordnance

Amp:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_777M225...ORID777&tp=115

Has anybody had any experience with these? Do they do good? And is there anything else that you would suggest I should get instead of these?

Thanks

+1 on the Kickers. I wouldn't go with a bandpass box unless you have a hatchback or SUV. You can find a decent pre-loaded set up or build your own for a similar price. I've been researching the same for myself. Check out Best Buy or E-bay for some good deals.

This is the route I'm thinking of going. I would love some 12's, but our trunks are not big enough. A good set of 10's in a ported box will do the deed. Also, those amps will allow for a remote gain **** you can keep up front, just turn it off when you don't need it. Best Buy has the same as above, but more expensive. Just be sure if your on e-bay, that it's NEW and not "re-furbished" junk. Best Buy Geek Squad will install an amp kit for $69 then you can do the rest yourself, or get a buddy to help. If you still have the stock head unit, you'll need a line converter to splice into the rear speakers, this may be something else to let Geek Squad do too. Don't let them sucker you into all the extra's, you don't need it. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the suggestions.

Would these fit in the trunk of a 2010 mustang?

If so, can you give me a link to an amp and wiring kit that will work for it. (Again, sorry but I don't know much about speakers.)

If it won't work I may go with the two 10 inch.

I just measured my trunk opening and compared it to the enclosure dimensions and I don't think it will fit. You might be able to squeeze it in, but it would be tight. If you go that route, or with similar speakers, you want to look at what the RMS power of the speakers are and match it to an amp. Those speakers would work well with a Kicker ZX750.1 or ZX1000.0 mono amp.

If 12's are really the route you want to go, you may want to consider a custom box as our trunks are not deep enough to accomodate a large pre-fab enclosure. Sorry for using Ebay on all the examples, but there's more selection in 1 place + the prices arent bad.

Not if you want to have any room for anything else! Plus the box may not fit through the opening. I built my box for 2 10's and made it big enough to put 12's in later if I wanted so it was 14 inches high and it really took some work to get it in. Then i didnt have room for much else and getting to the spare would be a PITA if i needed to. This is my reccomendation based on what you are looking at. Plus its what I am considering right now as well! I currently have 1 CVR 12 in a custom built box that I will more than likely rebuild this week. Going fiberglass molded like the JL stealth box. But i can build it cheaper than buying it.

1 Kicker L7 12, Dual 4 ohm voice coil<very important. Gonna cost you just over $200 on Ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-S12L7-KICKER...item3f0b4071f3

You could save a little money and get this sub instead with the same power rating but it probably wouldnt hit as hard as the L7.

1 Kicker CVX 12 , Dual 4 ohm Voice Coil. Just under $200 new on Ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-KICKER-CVX12...item35adc14538

1 Kicker ZX750.1 $250 on Ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-10ZX750-1-KI...item1c1d58a5b9

Wiring kit. This is where you dont want to buy the cheapest thing out there. Stinger is a good name. Not the best but not rediculously priced either. Plus this kit will support a 4 channel amp as well cause with all that bass your gonna need those interior speaker to be heard as well.
http://cgi.ebay.com/STINGER-SHK241-A...item19be640ccf

This amp is what you would use on those 2 CVR twelves or just the 1 Solobaric/CVX 12 which is square (bass is all about moving air, its square so it has more surface area than a round so it moves more air), handles more power, would use a smaller box(more trunk space) and probably bang just as hard. I ran 2 L5 10's in an extended cab truck and it was rediculous. I currently have 2 CVR 12's just like the ones you posted and they are great, but I had those in a F150 under the rear seat. In the trunk of a car you get more bass and louder subs than in a truck.

Ill be posting some pics of my install in this forum later this week. Going home tomorrow to finish it and get the pictures taken.

Hope this helps!

Go for a single JL 10"W7 if you like quality bass,I hav a single sub with a small box and the JL 750HD amp and im getting 130db with it,not to much bass but its a really clear decent one that does more then just make everything rattle...

If it were me id definitely go the kicker route. Bust your eardrums without bustin ur wallet. Try and find two 10" L3's and a ported box. A 500-700 watt amp powering thos and ur components will do the job. I have two 10" comps with a 500w and sealed box and ppl ask me if i have 12's with a 1000w.

I have a single kicker 12" in my 96. I'd say that it does the job. It's defiantly worth the money I spent on it. I think if you wanted a double woofer box you wouldn't have Much room in your trunk but if that's all you put in our trunk it would be fine.

PS: I found mine on craigslist. If your patient enough you can wait for a really good deal that includes an amp with a decent woofer. Mine was $100 for a 12" kicker and 100 or 200 watt amp (can't remember exactly). The on your looking at seems like a pretty good deal though

Wow those are some killer deals! I built this over the past 3 days. Its MDF and fiberglass. My first time doing a fiberglass box. Horrible job for a fiberglass box but not bad for a first timer. As it turns out I think I actually have too much Airspace. Gonna stuff it with a pillow and see if that helps. If I dont like how that sounds I will cut a hole in the box and add a port! Ive been using ported boxes for a while now. I still need to hide a few wires, put the truck liner that goes behind the box and clean and vacuum the trunk. Ill take care of all that once I get the box tuned and finished. My buddy owns an audio shop and Ill take it there tomorrow and tune it up. Its good to have a friend in the business.

Installed everything today. Haven't really had a chance to test it out but quietly in my garage. I'll give it a few days before I report if it sounds any good. I think however the amp may not have enough power though, we'll find out tomorrow.

Aw that breaks my heart 12s and up won't work, I was thinking of the JL 13s. I don't mean to hijack the thread from OP but a quick question to those who are familiar... will all this work with the stock radio deck?

I'm using my stock Shaker 500 deck with a line out converter. But there's a wire harness that goes behind the stock deck and gives you pre-outs with remote wire hookup. I would've went that route but didn't know about it till after I installed everything.

I didn't notice any difference in sound when I moved mine to the side. Might depend on your box though. I have/had a single 10 ported box that did the job.
