Sourcing Ford mirror to add reverse cam to 2014

After looking at various aftermarket solutions to add reverse cam to my 2014 GT Premium Coupe, I've decided that using a factory mirror with aftermarket cam and wiring might be the best solution. I don't want to clip a mirror over the existing one, but I do need to keep auto-dimming and compass input.

Would this work, and where do I source the factory mirror for a 2014 with this option? Perhaps I need the factory camera also, and just add the camera to mirror wiring? Suggestions?
Thanks

I did this mod a couple of years ago and then installed an aftermarket nav system with backup cam, so I undid it all.

It is not easy project if you don't know how to solder or aren't comfortable reading wiring diagrams, so be warned. I had to buy special connectors and basically make an adapter harness because the LCD mirror has 2 or 3 additional inputs and a different connector you need to account for.

it will be the same as an F150 mirror. if you can find the part number, great. I sourced a used F150 LCD mirror on fleabay for about $150.

I would stay away from a camera spoiler and get a small, generic camera off fleabay you can connect above the rear plate, between the plate lights.

there is some info on this forum, but not many mustang owners have done this mod. This is a very popular mod for F150 owners and I would advise searching here and the F150 owner's forum for the how to's. I got all my info for the project on an F150 forum.

here is one example of a camera that would work: http://www.ebay.com/itm/170-Wide-Angle-Waterproof-Car-Rear-View-CMOS-Camera-Reverse-Backup-Parking-/281153850028?pt=US_Rear_View_Monitors_Cams_Kits&hash=item4176134a

I was under the impression that the mirror in the Premium cars was already able to accept the input from a camera. I avoided the factory camera because I didn't want a spoiler, but have considered having an aftermarket camera installed.

nope. the premium mirrors don't have the LCD screen in them unless you specifically opted for the rear view camera system option (or if you have the factory nav, it would use the nav display instead of the mirror).

that option gets you the rear view camera spoiler, LCD mirror and a modified harness. It is a factory option, not a dealer option.

I have retrofitted the camera with the spoiler. I have the nav, but even so I still had to do wiring and adding connecting pins to the main connector behind the passenger kick panel.
