Shelby/Kicker 6"x8" vs. Pioneer TS-D6802R - Which Sound Better?
Hey everyone. I have decided to upgrade both my door speakers with the Shelby/Kicker 8" Woofers and I was wondering if anyone has heard the difference when the woofers are paired with the Shelby/Kicker 6x8's or with the Pioneer TS-D6802R's?
In other words, how do the Shelby/Pioneer 6x8's compare?

I'm also kinda throwing around the idea of the Polk MM571's. They are 2.7ohm with a lower freq. response than the DXi570's, and a higher db than the Pioneer's. I listen to mainly Rock and Metal. Anyone have any thoughts?

The Pioneers are a good speaker, please don't get me wrong. They are not as efficent as the stock speakers meaning you need to turn up the volume a bit more to get the same sound pressure. I like my music loud therefor a more efficent speaker will get my attention quicker. By comparsion the Polks are more efficent and plus it's of better quality. Keep in mind which speakers sound better is extreamly subjective, based on music type, how good your hearing is, enviroment (inside of your car), head unit and many other factors.
So the higher the decibels (dB), the more efficient the speaker? If I upgrade too, I don't want to have to turn up the stock unit more than I would (as with the stock speakers) to get the same loudness.
It seems like everyone is getting a 2-way replacement...anyone considered a 3-way speaker?

After much debate and reading tons of reviews on Crutchfield.com, Sonicelectronix.com, and onlinecarstereo.com, I have decided to pull the trigger on 4 of the Pioneer TS-D6802R for the doors and the rear. All of the reviews were mostly an overwhelming 5 stars and I noticed one word that kinda stuck out to me: Bass.
The Pioneers have a wider frequency response that any other 6x8 from 30-32000 Hz. All of the others start around 40 - 50 Hz except the Shelby 6x8's, but the Pioneers have a better top end. That means I'll be able to hear deeper bass and higher treble with a good all-around speaker with less emphasis on mid-range. Personally, I just don't like lots of mid-range.
I will probably keep the original door subs. I have read from a couple of different Mustang forums that the Shelby/Kicker subs are lacking and don't have as much punch without an additional amp. Heck, if I have to add an additional amp, I might as well put a bigger sub in the trunk later on.
So far, this is the best deal I've found:
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...TS-D6802R.aspx
Free shipping and they have 5x7 door baffles and pairs of the Metra Electronics 75-5600 adapters in stock.
I have a week vacation at the end of the month with no plans so I will post pics of the install and give a full review after the 7 days it'll probably take me to take out my back seat. Thanks Ford.
In response to magnido45's question, from years of selling audio products, the higher db means that the speaker is more efficient, however, it may not have the best all-around sound compared to others. I guess the question is, would you want a really efficient speaker with emphasis on mid-range or a slightly less efficient speaker that produced better sound quality?
Also 2-ways have just always sounded better and more balanced to me between lows and highs. 3-ways have alot of high-end emphasis. If you like hearing lots of high pitched cymbal crashes, then in my opinion, the 3-ways would be the way to go.

Just want to hear more cowbell? Hmmmmm, that's a tricky one.
Personally, I would probably go with something in a 6x8 specially made in Mexico for the rear and a really lightweight paper 6x8 made in lead-free China for the front for 100% muffled response. I'm not sure where to get such rare and elusive speakers like that though without paying out the ying-yang.... oh wait.
