shaker subwoofer info please

I have a 2013 gt and didn't want the premium option but was wondering if I buy the shaker 500 subwoofer and power amp., if it is an easy installation. Are there pre-drilled holes and a simple wire hookup already under the trunk matt? I tried to get the shaker 500 but my dealer said that ford wouldn't itemize options. Either get the package or do without. I'd like to stay stock. But there are other options if need be.

Don't bother with the Ford equipment. You can do much better adding aftermarket parts. Go to a good stereo dealer or try Crutchfield for ideas. I have a 12 Prem GT Vert with the Shaker 500 and while the woofers are ok, I am going to upgrade the 4 X 6s in the doors as they have poor dynamic range.

+1 on that.

I can appreciate the desire to stay stock with your new car, but for the money you'll spend sourcing the ford parts you can buy aftermarket speakers subs and amps that'll far out perform the stock components.

Like he said, check Crutchfield.com. They have a function where you put in your make model year etc and it shows you what parts are a direct fit for your application. If they don't have info on the 13s yet use 2012 or '11, I'm pretty sure they're all the same.

Oh, and also, if your car doesn't have shaker 500, you'd need new door panels to add it because your car wont have the lower sub location in the current door panel...

EDIT: Realized you said trunk, are you talking about the shaker pro/shaker 1000 sub? If so, disregard what I said about door panels. But my overall advice is the same, for the money you can buy much nicer aftermarket subs.

Thanks. Do you know if there's a single plug in in the trunk that'll work with aftermarket stuff or are we looking at a professional install?

There is no factory plug run to the trunk unless you have the Shaker 1000 setup (or whatever they are calling it for 2013). You can easily add a set of RCA's & remote turn-on lead with something like this:

You will also need to run a dedicated power line to the trunk but this is relatively easy and documented many times. FYI, a 4g wire fits perfectly through the factory grommet.

In addition to the box mentioned above JL Audo makes a nice Stealthbox setup for the new Mustang but you have to buy the amp seperately.

As others said, not at all worth trying to add the factory Shaker 500 components back in.

Thanks for all the input. Guess you're right about not staying stock. Visited Crutchfield and found the Site to be very useful.

I just bought this for my wifes Ford Edge to add an amp and sub to it. Install was 10 minutes at the most and everything is right there.

I bought it form ebay for $36 shipped.
