So I bought this screen protector plastic (originally packaged for an iPad) and I am not very craft-y. But I did my best to make a template, then I cut out the right size from the plastic sheet (I have maybe enough to do 2 more).
I applied the film last night and smoothed ALL the bubbles out and it was looking GOOD - not one scratch!! Then today I got in the car to go home after work, and because it had sat in the sun all day (I am guessing), there was a dime-sized bubble under the plastic!!
So you guys that have worked with this film much on the non-nav display, what are the key "tricks"? How can I salvage this? I hate wasting time on fussy/fiddly little tedious stuff like this!

But I fail to see where a bubble looks much better than scratches, except for the fact I guess I could peel this thing off and try again. But then if I do I prolly have to wipe it down after peeling off my 1st attempt, and then...

I hate this crap.

To the poster above who said to get one made for the display - Please tell me where I could find such a thing, I'd get it in a heartbeat! I am 99.999% such a thing doesn't exist because (a) the display isn't intended to be touched anyway, and (b) there are too few of us out there that care about the propensity for scratches on the non-nav display to do anything about it.
Everytime I've read of someone doing this trick, they used a screen protector made for the iPad and then (I guess) cut it to fit. Maybe I need to remove the dash panel so I can get at the naked display. Good idea, dmhines, but I'm not sure how to do that.

Grab the console by cup holders and pull up. Upper console will pop out. Disconnect wires and move it out of way.
Remove two small bolts at bottom of center stack. Pull on the center stack and it will pop out radio and climate controls go with it. Disconnect the cable and put it aside.
You can now remove display.

i thought you had the nav, but either way, you can pop off the front dash plate to get at the whole radio display in order to get a cleaner install. I think yours is bubbling because you used a thinner film made for a touchscreen device.
I would call someone like zagg.com in order to cut you a special piece. just tell them it's for a car radio display.

I scratched mine the first day by stupidly trying to wipe dust off it with a microfiber cloth. Put an iPad protector on it which looked ok (hid the scratches some).
I found this post on AFM where a guy made glass replacements for the display. Cost $15 including shipping. Best $15 I have spent. Install took 15 minutes and now it looks like it should have when it came from the factory.
Here's the link to the AFM post.
Can't say enough good things about it or the guy that makes it.

that glass looks awesome. I wish I knew how to do that.
It really is easy. Remove 2 screws, pop off the two panels, plastic radio display cover pops off with a jeweler's screwdriver, put the glass cover in and pop the cover's back on. Takes 15 minutes.

There is plenty of how-to information.
