Painting billet pieces?
I just got a set of the Steeda bullet door lock pins -- they look sweet, but I wanted to do something special with them. Right now they're bare billet aluminum pieces. I want to paint them to actually look like bullets -- copper head and brass jacket.
I picked up some high-temp spray paint, they had copper but not brass really, it's more of a darker gold color. These parts are so small though, I'm not sure that spray painting is the way to go . . . maybe model paint instead? Anybody done this before? I don't want to reinvent the wheel for some door pins, lol.

Spraying will avoid any brushmarks. Worth it from that stand point.
But come to think of it... you know, for this little project... I might be looking into getting some etching primer, sand the pins a little bit, shoot the primer, let it cure up for a week. Then sand it with some 800 or 1000... then...
...then, and I'm totally serious... Nail polish. Enamel kind.
No, wait, hear me out. I mean, you're talking something that, really, isn't gonna get handled a whole lot. And the nail polish is fairly durable, right? And on top of it all, it's self levelling, or how do the ladies get them so flat and shiny?
And bonus... there's a LOT of cool colors out there, you'll likely find the exact ones you're lookin' for. And it'll be *relatively* cheap to deal with...
A little clear top coat, if that's what you want, and you're done.
But anyway, with auto paint, brushes aren't very kind. Might depend on your skill and brush though. You'll still want to shoot the etching primer though to get anything to stick.
