Hello,


I am putting a Kenwood Excelon DNX-692, backup camera, speakers, etc... into my 2012 base V6. I've found out how to do every task, but cannot find any threads or videos on the internet regarding placement of the hands-free/Bluetooth microphone. It obviously connects to the back of the head unit, but I'm looking for recommendations on placement, and how to run the line. From what I understand, the headliner is glued on - but can I pry the edge a bit and run the line over to the map light? Any advice would really be appreciated. Thanks.

 

I have not done this yet on the Mustang, but have done it in other cars, and I like to run the mic up the driver's side windshield pillar, and then just leave the top of the mic poking out from between the pillar & headliner - nobody sees it there, and it is very close to your head, so it picks up well.

 

That's exactly how I ran the mic in my wife's '03 Miata.

 

The headliner can actually be pulled off after detaching a couple push pins
But running it up the drivers side a-pillar placing the mic by the sun visor would be ideal to mee. Concealed and in a great location to pick up voice

 

Thanks everyone - the pillar seems like just as close to the driver (or closer) than the map light, and a whole lot less pain than dealing with the headliner. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again!

 

I would have it come off the center of the steering wheel and extend toward my face.

 

I used a parrot mic on my head unit with good results.

 

Ran mine up behind the drivers side A pillar then pushed under the headliner and into the map light housing. Once there I just clipped it to the housing and stuffed the housing back into place which holds the clip and mic positioned right at the driver location. It was very quick and easy, no need to remove the headliner and both panels just pull off.

 

A-Pillar or running to the center are both good from what I've seen. Now what I want to see is what kind and how are you mounting the rear view camera? I will probably start a new thread asking for any pics of aftermarket rear view camera installs.

 

2013 base convertible I placed mine behind the button to the convertible top. ran wire along passenger side under the edge of the trim, down the pillar and behind the glove box. stayed there for over a year with no problems.
