installing aftermarket shift ****
ok, im not the best at fixing or replacing things...so,
i bought a CO shifter **** from cjpony and a boot extension
from speeddawg and im not sure exactly what to do....
i tried to remove the existing **** from my 2012 boss but the **** will not turn. i was told that the **** and the silver piece under the **** are all one piece but i still cannot turn it.
do i have to remove the whole shifter boot to change out the **** or anything else? am i doing something wrong? i am not mechanically inclined so i feel im doing something wrong or the shifter **** is just really tight.
any help?

You would swear that black ball is welded to the shaft...

Best bet is to get that beefy strap wrench from Sears or there's also a 2 piece set you can get from Lowe's that has a big one and a small one. Use the big one after hitting the ball with a hair dryer or heat gun (be careful if using a heat gun...) for a good 5-10 minutes. Using the proper technique to maximize your mechanical leverage to apply enough torque to break loose the loc-tite is key.
The chrome trim directly under the stock ball is attached to the ball and should twist off when you finally break it loose. Good luck.

YW. Not really needed if the new **** comes with a jamb nut to allow you to tighten it up and align the logo. But it wouldn't hurt, something you should always have in the tool box. Should only take you about a half an hour or so, it's not that hard if you heat that sucker up enough and get a good strap wrench. Some folks have also added fabric or rubber over the shift ball to prevent scratching. When I was a kid my parents had a piece of textured rubber for opening jars in the kitchen, something like that would be perfect on top of the ball, but I haven't seen those things in years...
And to be clear, once you finally break the loc-tite seal, the ball and the chrome trim extension will come off as one piece, don't expect the trim to stay on the shaft, it is attached to the shift ball. Once you get the hard part done, order yourself an MGW, you won't regret it!!
Saw your post (unless you have an alter ego about buying a SBY '13), are you still gonna do this mod to your CO '12 Boss? I love the HIDs, tails, Shelby style front end, Sync, and reflective '70 style stripes.

O.K., after all the above, attempts to remove the ball, on my 2013 Boss 302, Nick, at Hillbank USA, 5 ft. 6 in., 160 pounds, broke it loose, with his hands! I wanted a larger ball, in GHIG. $95.00 installed. It's perfect size and color. Also did custom diecut windshield vizer, $13.00 installed. Hillbank, 888-445-5226, they're great!

For $95, they should send over a female escort for the night.
I just bought a **** from EPCO for a lot less than that ... see here: http://www.epcoshiftknobs.com/
