GT500 shift boot
Got this tonight, and after trying, it won't fit over the shift ****. The plastic collar won't slip all the way down over the shift ****, so this is a lost project. Don't buy one and be out $40 like I was.
I'm confused. What do you mean it won't fit over the shift ****? You unscrewed your 401A shift **** and the plastic collar won't fit over the threaded shaft? The base of the shift **** in the picture you posted looks to be the same size as 401A but pictures can be deceiving. You could try removing the collar to give more slack.

UPDATE:
I got this to work. When I took measurements of the shifter shaft and the plastic collar on the new boot, they were very close. Found some plastic "boogers" which appear to be from manufacturing. I cleaned the collar out with a knife and that allowed it to slide down freely. There is one ear that sticks out from the inside of the GT500 boot, and that needs to be removed for the boot to sit flush like the stock 401A boot, which I did with a pair of side cutters and a file. You could use a Dremel and accomplish the same. Once that was done, it was simply a matter of snapping out the old boot and putting the new one in its place. Push the collar down to the bottom of the shifter assembly, then thread the 401A **** right over it, and you're done.

I agree!
Edit: Whoops, I'm late to the party! Looks good. I like the GT500 Boot, with or without the matching steering wheel. What would look nice is white stitching on the regular leather steering wheel to match the 401A package. A la, Motorsport style, that would certainly win me over on the 401A package. As if the **** isn't enough.
Let us know if you find out anything about the Boss shift *****. (Once again, just stating the obvious)

Good thing, this gives any 400A people another option to change the look, and for 401A people they can go with something different as well.
As for the Boss ****, we won't know much until 2012 parts and models start hitting the showrooms. I'll keep you all posted when I find out more.
