garage door system

Basically the 2011 didn't have the option but the 12 does. Think its possible for dealer to install it on my 2011. Sounds minor but sometimes I don't always have the remotes with me and then get stuck waiting for a car to open the gate at 1am on a weekday.

I'm pretty sure you can swap in a 12 visor without issues. I believe a few folks on hear have already.

You can but it won't be plug and play. I ended up getting this:

Amazon.com: LiftMaster Garage Door Opener Three-Button 315 MHz Mini Remote Control model 370LM/956D: Home Improvement Amazon.com: LiftMaster Garage Door Opener Three-Button 315 MHz Mini Remote Control model 370LM/956D: Home Improvement

Nice thing about it is that I always have it. Even if I go for a walk or bike ride.

The '11s don't have the wiring. You'd have to tap into existing wiring or run wires down to the fuse box.

Here's a different option that wires right into your existing high beam wiring. I installed one in my GT and it works great, with a very simple install... you just click your highbeam switch twice and it activates the garage door.

Your existing 2011 mirror has the auto tint feature (dims the headlights of rear vehicles), doesn't it? If so, you have a power and ground lead that plugs into the back of the rear view mirror. This is all you will need to install a HomeLink mirror. I gotta believe that the 2012 mirror snaps onto the windshield mount like the 2011's, and then just cut/splice the different connector into the 2012 mirror.

Or buy a HomeLink mirror off of Ebay. Cheaper, and they come with the wiring connector. An easy, 10 minute splice, that even a Chevy owner could do!

Hello Blackbird,

I found one on our Ford Accessories Site that is compatible with your vehicle. I hope this helps.

I know this isn't what your looking for but I used double sided tape and mounted my opener in the car somewhere.

My tiny key fob type opener fits perfect in the cup hoder area. Cheap too!

Yes, Blackbird. I wasn't sure if your vehicle had SYNC or not. You should speak to your dealer and see what other options you may have.

Sometimes I'm thinking it's not a good idea to have the visor garage opener simply because if a thief breaks in they can search for your registration papers and find your home and open the garage, with the trunk release button he can open the trunk to get to registration papers there if you hid it

There are plenty of places you can mount it in the car and out of sight and easy to reach.

Excellent writeup! You can buy these homelink units on ebay for cheap. Both Dodge and Ford use them. I bought a sunvisor equipped with a homelink off of Ebay for $25.00 shipped, and simply removed the Homelink module and installed it into my 2005 Ford F150's visor (the cutout was there already). Seeing as how the newer Mustangs visors appear to be too thin, your idea of putting it into the mini maplight overhead is genius! Much cheaper than the Homelink rear view mirrors.

Hmmm, I swear that the wiring was in the headliner, but not terminated with the connectors needed to swap the visors effortlessly. There were several threads here on how to do it, just have to search (I'll try to post later).

You may be right. I don't trust my memory anymore.
