For everyone worried about future vehicles with sync, the new version of sync is not done by Microsoft.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Sync#Sync_3

Sync 3

On December 11, 2014, Ford announced that the upcoming Sync 3, which will replace MyFord Touch, will have simpler features and will be powered by QNX software by BlackBerry Limited instead of Microsoft. Sync 3's layout was modeled after Uconnect used in FCA's Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep models. The Sync 3 name will be used for both Ford and Lincoln models, though Lincoln's will have a different layout. Over half of Ford's North American vehicles will have Sync 3 by the end of 2016 and will be expanded globally afterwards; vehicles not equipped with Sync 3 will be equipped with the original Ford Sync. Ford cited issues with Microsoft's complex software dragging down its scores with Consumer Reports and other consumer magazines being a reason it switched to BlackBerry.

Thank God!!!!! unfortunately you can not retro fit sync 3 to prior models as it requires a hardware change as well as software, so those of us with the old sync are still stuck with it.
I gotta call BS on the part that blames Microsoft complicated software causing issues, It's poor design and poor engineering along with trying to save a buck instead of doing it right.

Agree with you. The voice recognition is sooo bad. I simply give up using it anymore. Otherwise, the system is OK.

Will there EVER be a day when my car consistently connects to my phone via Bluetooth. Sometimes I leave my phone in the car and it defaults back to line-in when I restart the car. Other times I can take my phone with me throughout the mall walking a mile away from where I park the car and when I return, SYNC connects to my phone automatically when I turn the radio on. I have probably said "BLUETOOTH AUDIO" more times than any other phrase or groupings of words throughout my entire life (FWP ), and definitely more times than I would like. Since the car does connect to my phone without issue sometimes, I'm just trying to see if there is some set of steps I am only doing sometimes, but not consistently, that maybe someone else has figured out and can guide me to the promise land. For a while I thought I figured out that just turning on the radio before unlicking my phone was the trick, but that only worked a few mornings then back to "BLUETOOTH AUDIO" again.

Hey everyone,

We're planning to release another update in the very near future. I don't have the exact release date just yet, but stay tuned: https://owner.ford.com/tools/account...p-to-date.html

The last update never would take on my car. Should I keep trying or just wait until the next update comes out?

Hi hctr154,

What happens when you attempt the installation? I'm happy to help.

I made the mistake of trying to update my own sync software per the instructions from Fords website. It ended up giving me so many problems after the update I took it to the dealership where they hooked it up to a laptop where they would keep restarting the download every time the sync would freeze. It took them about 5 hours and now it's better then it was but the other day it really crapped out and wouldn't activate the voice commands after pushing the button (no chime or anything) and would answer my phone but went in to deaf and mute mode. Nothing like scrambling to disconnect your phone from the Bluetooth so you can talk to a client while driving.

Does ford get a report on how many times a car has been in for a problem? A little note in the mail saying "Thanks for being cool with us while we figure this out on your new car. Here's a free key chain for your inconvenience" would go a long way.

Sync on my 2013 Mustang (with NAV, SiriusXM subscription, and backup camera) worked quite well. It wasn't perfect - was a bit sluggish to do everything, and voice commands were a struggle. Some of the voice response was clearly due to it being a louder vehicle than most; trying it while accelerating hard or with a window open was not a good idea.

I had updated it twice via USB stick, and though it took a LONG time to load, it did provide incremental improvements to the system, although minor.

On my wife's 2014 Escape, it's an entirely different Sync system version, and works well but with some definite quirks. One of the most annoying was bluetooth audio from MY iPhone. Voice command "bluetooth audio" always bawked the first time around, stating "bluetooth audio device not found. Attempting to connect to the previously paired device . . ." which was MY device. I'd have to issue the voice command again for it to connect and play.

Sync 3 in my 2016 Mustang GT Premium (with Nav, SiriusXM subscription, backup camera) is MUCH better than both! It's FAST, entirely gone is the sluggishness of the older systems. Any past opinions regarding Sync are invalid with this version, it's a completely new system with no direct comparison to the past. There are some bugs / feature requests / changes to the system I see are needed, and I'm going to post those in another thread.

Some of the gripes in this thread I sympathize with, and understand your grief. But there are potential solutions, none of which some of you on this thread seem at all willing to try. If you want to just ***** about it, that's certainly up to you, clearly your mind's made up. But I'm certain the problems you are experiencing are not universal, and you haven't been left ignored by those who might help.

The instructions on the web for a user to update the Sync system with a USB stick are simply awful. I missed the stupid part that said not to pay attention to the command saying the update is complete. Oh brother. Until I got it right it took me two hours, and I'm NOT computer illiterate. That terrible Microsoft software needs to be completely rewritten for us non-Sync 3 users until it's right! Ford, you should be glad that I am proud of my Mustang, and a stockholder. Otherwise, the lousy 6 speed tranny would have caused me to trade for a Dodge long ago.

Is there any news on this, because it's been just shy of three months since this was stated and there hasn't been anything said about it. Maybe my definition of "very near future" is too narrow though.

Here's to hoping I never have to hear this any more:
Sync was not able to detect any sync capable mobile applications running on your device.

Right after it played Pandora or Spotify briefly over USB at startup.

Old thread, but the title caught my eye... Yes, SYNC makes me want to trade in my '14 GT (and it makes me want to trade it for a non-Ford product)! I have reset this stupid system so many times, and still constantly hear:
"Sync has detected a problem and has stopped communication with Pandora." OR
"Sync is not able to detect a Sync capable device..."

The sad thing is I installed a cheap JVC aftermarket radio in my Jeep, and it has ZERO problems hooking up with my phone- every time.

SYNC is a cool idea that just ruins my car. I would love the option to just have it disabled and replaced with a simple Bluetooth interface that simply allows me to play music from my cell phone. My wife's F150 has a much simpler version (non-Nav), that works far better. Some days I simply give up and use the analog connection to connect my phone.

Hi Varilux,

Is SYNC up-to-date in your vehicle? You can check your account here: https://owner.ford.com/tools/account...p-to-date.html

Yep, up-to-date. It's been updated twice since I purchased. Sadly, the first few months, SYNC worked flawlessly (and it was so cool). Over time, it has digressed to the point where it actually surprises me when I don't hear "SYNC has detected a problem and has stopped communication with... Pandora."

Sync in my Mustang was always lackluster. I now own a 2015 Focus and Sync actually works pretty good .. the last update added SIRI Eyes Free and that works great too.

Between the issues I m having on my 2011 GT Mustang, paint bubbling on my hood, sync incapable of working on my iPod classic. It is getting kind of said. I won't even get into the issues with my 2005 diesel van...all I can say is Oy
