Custom made seat delete

Made this kit myself out of scrap around my shop. Still have some detail work to do but the hard part is done. Prolly gonna make a custom brace in the back not really sure yet. Any ideas are welcome.

Well at least the weight will stay the same plus added bonus of better sounding stereo.

I'm just gonna put a 10" shallow mount. I really just did it for the fun of it. And I hate when people ride in the back. It crams my knees up in the dash an this is now an excuse to keep people out. And I'll prolly ad even more weight with a 4 point roll bar anyways

Still looks like a seat just more uncomfortable. In all seriousness, I think it would look better in different material, maybe like the headliner.

Pink fur would be the best.

The whole point of the rear seat delete is to remove weight from the car. If he had molded the panels in the shape of a seat out of some light-weight material (fiberglass, abs, etc), it would have been equally as effective at its primary purpose (and it would still look like a seat).

I would probably do it different, mainly to maximize available trunk space, either by keeping the fold-down feature of the rear panel, or by building a box that replaces the rear seat.

In any case, this particular application of the idea looks like it's done a lot better than the craptastic one available from AM.

What did you make it out of? Fiberglass? ABS? Aluminum?

Exactly. I wasn't gonna pay 150 for there's or the 400 some company's want. But it isn't cost anything since I made it out of stuff laying around the shop. I could have went and spent some green and made it even better, which I may do. I found a awesome delete kit I want to copy last night and I have the link saved on my computer. I will post later. It was pricy at about 2500 $. But boy was it clean. Deleted everything and made a smooth floor all throughout the backseat and trunk also with a custom roll cage.

The back piece is made with mdf and when my shallow mounts come in I'm gonna add to the back to make it a sealed box. And the bottom is just made out of a thin piece of plywood but it it actually really sturdy an still light weight. Wish it was something else. But it was a fun budget project. It will prolly get sold to a buddy and remade cuz now I have the experience of all that will need to be done.

I gotta praise custom DIY work and especially because you used materials you already had lying around!

I have a vert and just wish I could visualize a rear seat delate with cross brace that would look okay with the top down, maybe fiberglass faux rear seats with a brace like the Laguna Seca poking through it?

Like this quick-chop

I want to do a seat delete that retains the flip-down seat that still allows me to extend the cargo space (rifle cases don't fit in the trunk like they did in my Crown Vic). I also want the bottom to have compartments (and lids). There's no point in doing this if I don't at least try to make use of the area.

The back seats don't flip down to expand the trunk?

MDF isn't exactly light. Did you actually save any weight?

I was considering using ABS, but that gets expensive when you get large pieces.

In the end I prolly didn't save anything. But I'm actually gonna give this one to a buddy and make a new one out of fiberglass. I have two 10s in it now. Whatever I do. It will be very "custom". It is jut way to simple and I think I want paint instead of the carpet.
