I've got the Electronics Package and have never used the hard drive. If you've got Sync - with or without the EP - you can simply copy your songs in MP3 format to a flash drive and play them directly from there. I already have all my music in MP3 format so I can't see any possible reason to use the hard drive. The Electronics Package uses a hard drive to store navigation data. It's got about 10GB left over, so Ford lets you use it for storing music if you want to. It's kind of an afterthought, and less desirable than simply playing the music directly from the flash drive.

There's one class of people who really benefit from the hard drive. There are a lot of people above a certain age who don't use computers too much, don't know what MP3 files are, and probably don't even know how to copy files from their computer to a flash drive. Probably not to many of them are member of The Mustang Source. This feature is for them. Grandpa can bring a stack of CD's out to the car, plug them in one at a time and have the EP archive them to it's hard drive.

Even if the system could pull MP3's off of a flash drive and save them to the hard drive, what would be the point? Why not just play directly from the flash drive (or portable hard drive, or SD card with USB adapter, whatever)? Then you aren't limited to the 10GB of leftover space from the hard drive.

I really like the ease of use with the ep's hard drive. Spoken commands are very handy. "Play Genre Classic Rock.." "Play Artist Aerosmith" EASY AS PIE. If you want to flip through mp3 files, just use the controls on your steering wheel. No reason to fiddle with auxiliary devices. Keep your hands on the wheels and your eyes on the road. But, I'm hardly techno savvy, so undoubtedly there are other just as efficient ways to manage music.

I use my IPOD, stays in the car all the time. I may switch to a flash drive cause sometimes the IPOD locks up.

I have found this to be the easiest method. My iPod lives in the car so always charged and with 8,000+ songs more than enough for a road trip

The storing CD's to the HD takes sooooo long.
