both aftermarket front speakers don't work today...

Hey all, I installed some Pioneer front speakers about a month or so ago and they worked and sounded great until this morning. I got in the car this morning and the right one was kind of crackling and the left was totally dead then the right went out very shortly after. Any ideas what could have caused this?

Also, does anybody know the fuse for the front speakers? (I can look up but if you know that would be helpful)

What should I do at this point, just pull the panel and check the wires? It seems odd they both went out at the exact same time. Also, if they were blown they would have SOME sound wouldn't they - just bad sound?

That is strange. I have no idea why they would both go out like that.

I replaced all of my stock speakers with Pioneer G series and took them all back out. The G series sounded worse than stock. I will either go with A or D series next time and maybe an amp for them as well. Not sure how clear the stock head unit is though.

I just went out and turned the car on so the stereo could play and the right speaker was crackling again then all of a sudden it started playing fine and sounded normal. I thought everything was ok but I put the fade all the way to the front right and still nothing besides the sub. Do you all think this would mean at least the amp isn't blown? That's my biggest concern

On a funny note, the song playing was "SAY SOMETHING I'M GIVING UP ON YOU" LOL!!!

Is it the stock amp? Stock wires?

Yes all stock besides the two 6x8 Pioneer door speakers. And the metra harness...

I would think the only way to trouble shoot it would be to put the stock speakers back in then. Could be a number of things, amp, speakers, loose connection in the back of the amp.

I hear ya but there is only one problem. I threw them away. Yep. I didn't think I'd ever use them again since these aftermarket ones were only $60 I was just going to leave them in the car whenever I sell it in the future. D*AMNIT!!

You could test the signals using a house speaker. At least that would tell you whether or not the signal is getting to the speaker. You'd have to take the door panel off and use the Metra adaptor. Just hold the speaker wires onto the Metra plug, phase won't matter just to test them. Don't cross them or touch them together.

Thanks man I appreciate the help. I found some stock ones on ebay for $10 a piece. I may just buy those if I can't get this figured out and see if they work. I don't play the radio real loud or anything so I would be surprised if the speakers were actually blown.

Update: Interesting find yesterday. Pulled door panels, took out speakers and found the drivers side metra harness had one side that had fallen off at the harness. Put that back in, made sure the speaker worked (it did) so I put it all back together and went to the passenger side. Same thing there. I put it all back together, and headed to Arbys to get something to eat and was feeling pretty good. Turned radio on and was jamming to some good country and next thing you know the drivers side stopped working again! So, instead of getting my beef and chedder, I headed to best buy to buy another metra harness. Got that, pulled door and speakers back off, pulled the harness and what was happening is that the prong was pushing through when I went to snap the harness together. I guess it was just a piece of junk (got off Amazon). Both sides were like that. Maybe it just wasn't lined up right when I pushed it all together and therefore the prong from the metra harness didn't go in the factory harness and just pushed the wire out of the housing I don't know. So far, the new harness and everything works great again. I can't believe this hasn't happened to anybody else. Maybe I'm just an idiot (I admit I'm an amateur when it comes to audio stuff) or the harness I got was faulty. Either way I'm just happy it's working again and the amp or something bigger wasn't torn up.

Also, I think the drivers side had been out before but I didn't notice right away b/c the passenger front was still working. When it went out that's when I thought they both went out at the same time. That tells you right there how much of an improvement after market fronts are.

Thanks to all that helped me!

I think I got my harness adaptors off of Ebay but only had them in for 2 weeks before I put the stock speakers back in. I wonder if mine would have a similar problem over time. Thanks for sharing what happened so we know what to look for on our own systems.

I would highly recommend my speakers. It's a huge improvement over stock. If the volume is like 1/4 way up the system is already loud and crisp. I don't know why yours wasn't good. Here are the ones I went with...Not sure what series they are as you mentioned G etc

Amazon Amazon

You bought the D series (TS-D). That is why they sounded so much better. I had the G series in mine (TS-G). I was told the D series would not fit in the rear deck though (too tall) and I want to replace them as well. The D is the best 6X8 Pioneer so you chose wisely.

I have the metra harness that I ordered off Amazon, and it was working great then a few months ago I noticed my drivers speaker was sounding staticy. It had not fallen off but i could tell it had worked loose. I gave the terminal a little squeeze with the pliers to tighten the connection. It's been good since. I figure if it happens again, I'll solder it.

Yeah I didn't think to try to fix it. I just bought a new one. I tried pulling a little on the new one to make sure it wasn't pulling out easily and it was tight. The Amazon one though was tight on the positive side of one and the negative side of the other but you could EASILY pull out the other side. It wouldn't even stay in at all. I then tried to pull out the side that was tight and I couldn't get it to come out and I pulled about has hard as I could.

and if its like a male/female type of connector, just grab some plyers, and give it a little squeeze to tighten it up.

Good to know, as i believe mine are starting to come loose as well. on my way back from North Carolina i noticed my diverside speaker getting a bit fuzzy. A little love tap on the door panel seemed to fix it temporarily but ill have to open the door panel up to check out the situation in there.
