Just comparing them, the 5-way is on the left with the cruise toggles, compared to just cruise on the 2012. I would think the harness would be different.

I would think you could get the wheel and just pop the buttons and harness out of the 13 and use the 2012 wheel.

Anyone else want to chime in on that?
Oh these are 2012's... Where can we find 13-14 gt500 steering wheels then?

No idea, don't know if its a different part number or just different inserts.

But for the price I'd look into swapping out button sections/harness.
Once the wheel is apart its a 5 minute job to do that. IF that would work.

I paid particular attention to my steering wheel this morning and really like it. I have a 2014 base GT and it has leather wrapped steering wheel and shifter. My buddy that has a 2012 has a foam coated steering wheel so I guess I am lucky Ford put the leather on the 2014.

Dunno, but I ordered a 2012 GT500 wheel and will try to swap my 2014 buttons over to it. I will report back.

2012 GT500 Steering Wheel installed in my 2014 GT:
It was a breeze to do and the D-pad buttons on the left slid out of the stock wheel and into the GT500 one real easy. 20min job TOPS!

Not to hijack this thread, but here’s another option for those of us without the SYNC system.
My 2012 Performance Package V6 came with that low rent vinyl wheel too.

After reading a bunch of threads with conflicting info on whether I could ever get the extra buttons working with my non-SYNC radio (needing to talk the dealer into re-flashing the ACM and all)...and hearing about how the lettering on the 11-12 wheel buttons can flake off over time (like the buttons on that blasted Chevy Cobalt I used to have), I decided to go another way.

Since the 2005-2009 leather GT wheel is pretty much a direct swap (except for the wiring harness), and the price was right, I picked a used one up off Ebay for about $90.

Going in, I wasn't a fan of the super bright silver spoke covers, but I found (I don't remember where) where a guy discovered a rattle can color that Dupli-color makes that matched the charcoal metallic grey on other parts of the dash (the bezel around the radio for instance).

I took the 05-09 wheel apart to clean it. The spoke covers pry off easily. Once off, you can see how the switches are pressed onto these little posts that angle inward toward the center of the steering wheel (basically, you can pry them out too). I lightly sanded the plastic spoke covers with 400 grit and sprayed three light coats of Duplicolor on, then when on to swapping over the switches.

Now I've seen this swap in the past where people have cut the wiring plug off the 05-09 wheel and soldered on the one from their 11-12 wheel. I could have done that, but I wasn't 100% sure the used switches on this 05-09 wheel worked...or if they lit up the same color as the old switches.

Instead, I pried the old switches out of the old vinyl wheel. This was much easier than I thought – the vinyl on the base wheel is pretty flexible and compliant, and as long as you have some patience (and the right prying tool), they come out just fine:

Then I removed the horn switch and lifted the whole wiring harness from the wheel:

Here’s the “new” old wheel ready for the switches:

And here’s the final product in the car. The switches work flawlessly (they should – they are out of the stock wheel and no wires were cut or anything). Also, the color matches the dash beautifully:

I know it’s not an 11-12 GT wheel…pretty plain actually, but it’s a nice subtle change and I love how the paint matches the dash. It feels 200% better than stock, most people would barely notice it’s been changed and all the buttons work.

For me, it came down to what else I was going to change. If I did the boss wheel, I would have to as Alcantra to some other pieces to make it match. Examples would be my padded leather console cover, shift boot, and e brake boot.

I decided on the gt500 wheel because it has Alcantra and regular leather on it. I feel it matches the other pieces without adding other changes. The Alcantra is just an enhancement on a leather wheel.

Good point, I might go Boss way since it might be better for track use due to grip level. I sweat like a pig LOL

This looks great. I'm thinking of getting this steering wheel. I think it will match my GT\CS seats well being both leather and "suede". You said it was easy to swap the d-pad buttons on the left but is that all you have to do? No harness swapping or anything? If so, I'm sold. Thanks for any info or tips anyone can provide.

Edit: Nevermind, got my info from the owner of the quoted picture. It's just plug-and-play. Ordering

Installed it Saturday. I ended up having to change the harness out after all because the left side wouldn't work. I also changed both sets of buttons (and the silver trim, lol) from my original because the font and graphics were "crisper" on mine. I love it though. It feels like what should have come in the car because it matches the seats perfectly.

Lol. Then I'd be on my third armrest cover from you, a shift boot, and e brake boot. The mods never end!

For anyone going with the GT500 wheel, I have a customer that bought a black Alcantara top/ smooth leather side armrest cover and never installed it so it still brand new. He decided to go with a perforated Alcan top to match his seats. He`ll let it go for $85 so you can save a little money on a real nice cover that will match that steering wheel real nice. PM me if interested and I`ll hook you up.

Heres a pic of what that cover looks like. This one is test fit on a lid with the latch, but same cover.

@BlackandBlue How is that steering wheel holding up? I read that the 05-09 is not a direct switch to the 10-14 base, or is that negligible since you switched the wiring?
