Aftermarket doubledin possible?

Looking to buy a GT and was going to get the nav option, but Im wondering if I can skip the electronics package and use the $2000 for the package on my own aftermarket setup. Not sure if anyone has done this and what exactly is involved. I would imagine it would involve some harnesses and possibly a dash kit of sorts. Any info and pictures would be great!

Thanks guys!

The dash kit alone is $299. Whether you go with the Metra or Sosche. People are not happy with the way the buttons look, they look cheap.

If you plan on retaining the SYNC, there is another $199 harness to buy to make it work with an aftermarket headunit.

If you want to keep the steering wheel controls for the volume and such, I believe that is a $40 harness.

Add that to the cost of a Double Din headunit and you have one expensive radio set up.

I agree its expensive. Probably still cheaper than from Ford though, or very close. Thats basically $550 + radio. The radio is like $1300-$1500. So say $2000 total.

But if its cheezy looking then whats the point. Guess ill surf the forums here to see if I can find installed pictures as the ones on those two manufacturers sites maybe dont tell the whole story. Thx

Lots of people are complaining about both kits. The Metra electronics is apparently crap. One guy describes a problem where the defroster comes on if he hits a bump, and he can't turn it off, and none of the buttons appear to work. It might be better to get the Ford unit and upgrade the speakers and amps with aftermarket units.

and from what I read about the Scosche kit, it was killing a guys battery. He called up Sosche and found out there is a firmware update on the unit.

Just get the electronic package. In the end it would be around the same price but the factory package includes much more and looks a lot better.
