Post Advice on Which Dash Kit to Use

I have a 2011 V-6 Mustang Convertible (not the premium model) to which I would like to take out the stock radio and put in HD radio with navigation.

I was looking at the Scosch 1TCFD01B radio dash kit or the Metra ITCFD01B which includes Maestro MUS1 and Maestro RR. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with either one and which one would be a better fit.

Also any suggestions on a good radio with nav that would fit either dash kits.

Thanks for any help and or advice.......

I just ordered a Dynavin N7-MST2010 PRO (it'll be here in a week). Its basically an aftermarket unit that looks like the OEM NAV/HVAC.

$866 for Radio and SiriusXM add-on, shipping included. There are a couple threads on here and other mustang forums on it, but its uncommon. AmericaMuscle has basically the same thing under the Navos branding, but its almost always out-of-stock and for similar pricing.

I was wondering if you put the Dynavin system in yet and do you like it?

Today, I did install it, but then uninstalled it . I couldn't get it to work with the OEM sub in the trunk. It appeared to be connected correctly with correct adapter harness to keep shaker/etc. No settings made a difference either. I sent Dynavin an email. I'm waiting to see what they say.

I got a response from Dynavin. Apparently I missed a connection. I needed to connect the Green "Sub Out" wire to something. The video instructions made it sound like that was for an optional aftermarket Sub but it is actually required. They suggested connecting it to the Green "Sub In" connector (which I totally missed the first time around) or the White "Mid-In" Connector. Due to the different systems that Ford has installed it is a bit of trial and error to see which is correct. In my case, the Green "Sub In" connector did nothing, but the White "Mid In" connector worked. The OEM sub in the trunk is functional.

I also re-used the OEM SiriusXM Antenna (which has better reception) instead of the antenna that came in the add-on kit. To use the OEM antenna, I unclipped the yellow connector body from the antenna wire and plugged the antenna into the SiriusXM adapter. It doesn't connect firmly so I have gaffer tape helping to hold it in until I can find an adapter or make something better to hold it in place. I used 3M Trim Tape to attach the SiriusXM adapter to the underside of the black box that stayed in the car (behind where the original radio screen was).

EDIT: I just found the antenna adapter for $9 delivered from Amazon and ordered it. It'll be here in two days. I'll let you know if it works.

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm waiting to order one until I hear from you on whether you like it and is it worth the investment.
I don't have the premium radio package , so I don't have to worry about the OEM sub in the trunk. The radio definitely needs to be replaced.

I'd say don't wait for me on this. Check out some other threads and review videos. I alternate between my Mustang and Firebird for driving and I've been driving the Firebird the last couple days.

My criteria are (not in any particular order):
* Screen for backup camera
* OEM Look / Fit / Functionality
* Keep Steering Wheel Controls (although they are sometimes sluggish on this unit)
* Keep Satellite Radio
* Keep HVAC and heated seats as physical buttons

The rest of the features like Navigation and Android Auto I probably won't use.

The only other kit that comes close is the new Metra shroud with the two big round ***** that fits a double-din radio. But the total price would have been higher and still not look at good. The ***** look like shiny black plastic which I could probably live with, but the opening for the double-din radio was stepped instead of the smooth angle/gradient like this unit or the OEM unit. If I went wit that Metra unit, I'd probably modify it to look smooth instead of stepped.

I just remembered that I forgot to connect the microphone for the bluetooth and to connect my phone. I need to get to that.

I'm having some issues with mine and I've sent an email to Dynavin about them. I want to see what they say before I post. Maybe its user error, maybe its design/quality issues.

I've been going back-and-forth with Dynavin on some issues.

Issues so far:
* Getting back in the car and starting, often doesn't return to playing the previous source. I usually have it on the 40's station on SiriusXM but the radio almost always starts back at the menu and I have to select the radio. The OEM radio, and every other car radio I've ever used, picks up playing on the same input on startup as it was when it turned off, but not this one. This also takes longer to start up than the nearly 15 year old Pioneer AVIC-D3 in my Firebird.
- UPDATE: This has gotten better on its own. Usually will lock-on but not immediately. Sometimes I'm down the block before it does.

* Steering Wheel controls are inconsistent to the point of being useless. Volume Up usually works. Volume Down often raises the volume instead of lowering it and at least once changed the channel. The others are random if they do what they are labeled. They all work fine with the Original/OEM radio.
- UPDATE: Still random and useless. They are blaming corroded buttons and battery terminals. The battery terminals aren't corroded and the radio has its own reference ground to the switches so that doesn't make sense. I haven't disassembled the buttons but they work fine with the stock radio. Last conversation was that they were going to check with dev team to see if there is a hidden calibration menu and I was going to take out the radio and test/meter the output from the switches (green wire for signal and black wire for reference ground on smaller connector). I haven't gotten to remove the radio and testing yet.

* Bluetooth Audio and Android Auto Music volumes are too quiet. Even after I maxed out the volume setting on my phone and the source settings in the radio, it was still quieter than the other inputs and lacking bass. I'm not looking for mega loud thumping sound, just normal audio levels.
- UPDATE: They suggested removing and re-setup of bluetooth connection between phone and radio. At first that helped to the point of being acceptable. However, I tried the built-in Dynavin NAV and the Android Auto Music is messed up again (even after exiting Dynavin NAV and rebooting radio).

* Minor issue: I don't see a DST option. I have to change the TimeZone to emulate the DST change
- UPDATE: DST option doesn't exist. You need to change time zones for the time to appear correct.

* I turned off the on-screen reverse guide lines since the camera I have has that built in. However, after a few days, the feature turned itself back on.

* SiriusXM station icons don't appear even after a refresh.

Thanks for the update. I did order the Dynavin for my car and it should be here next week. Are you happy with the system because it seems like you have some issues with it?

I'm on the fence on it. The bugs are annoying. Luckily the big problems are not what I normally use. I have not heard back from Dynavin if there is a hidden calibration menu for the steering wheel controls.

Put it this way, I had painted my OEM radio and center console metallic blue. I haven't painted this one yet, I might switch back to the OEM unit. Unfortunately, their return policy says I'm out of luck; as soon as you install it, it isn't returnable. I've been driving my Firebird more the last few days so I've left the Dynavin in the Mustang for now.

At this point, I'm not sure about it.

I installed mine yesterday which took about 30 minutes. I watched the install video and followed the instructions because it was all plug and play.

I turned on the ignition and the system fired right up. All the controls worked including the steering wheel controls.

There where only two things I wasn't happy with, the first one as you mentioned is no daylight saving adjustment and the second is the phone mic which is kind of large. They could have made it more compact and nicer looking.

I have the base mustang convertible and the radio really makes my standard speakers sound great. I think it was worth the money for what you get and it looks good installed.

While you're at it, how about also introducing yourself in the "Introductions" sub-forum section by highlighting the forums drop down menu located on the upper left corner of the home page, then highlight "Ford Mustang Chat" and then highlight/select "Introductions" Once your in the " Introductions" sub-forum section, you can either choose to introduce yourself from any of the existing threads or you can submit a new thread and introduce yourself that way as an option as well!

I forgot to update this thread. None of the issues were solved in my unit. I returned it shortly after that last post above (so probably in early July 2021). They accepted a return even though their policy says they don't accept return after install (which is a bad policy since you can't tell if something wrong with it until after you install). I had been back-and-forth messaging them on the issues without resolution. I returned it and went back to stock. I've been using the stock headunit ever since.
