2013 Shaker Audio: How is it changed from 2012?

I read that the Shaker options are new, but what's new about them?

Do they have a new speaker layout, perhaps with a higher tweeter like so many other cars?

I've looked through all the pictures from these little "review-lets" coming out of Portland and I haven't seen anything different.

Some info:
http://media.ford.com/images/10031/M...hakerAudio.pdf

http://www.autoblog.com/2012/03/19/2...iew/#continued
From the webreview (with link above)
"Then there's the new sound system. Buyers may skip the base stereo by stepping up to GT Premium trim. Doing so swaps the components for those of either the Shaker sound system with eight speakers and six channels of audio, or the mighty Shaker Pro system found in our tester. With nine speakers crammed into the confines of the cabin, including two tweeters aimed directly at passengers to replicate the concert experience, the system is so loud that Ford had to redesign the interior body panels to withstand the abuse of the stereo's highs and lows. In fact, Ford says the Shaker systems can produce deep bass just beyond the frame of human hearing. It's the kind of low you can feel sliding down your rib bones. Crank Queens of the Stone Age to inhumane levels and you'll find yourself with Josh Homme's tongue writhing its way down your ear canal. The tiny bones of your inner ear know they've never felt this way before, but they like it. It's equal parts sexy and amazing.

If that review is at all truthful, it sounds like Ford paid some attention to it. Good to hear, since I am getting the Shaker Pro.

I wonder how much difference between the Shaker and the Shaker Pro?

Obviously one extra speaker (center channel possibly), and the single sub in the trunk.

Anyone know the size of the sub in the trunk for the Pro? It looks like a single sub, instead of the dual 10's like the previous Shaker 1000.

I wish the V6 Premium could have had the Pro as an option

EDIT: Just realized, Ford still counts the subs as speakers. So both Shakers have six actual speakers, the 6X8 and tweeter in each door, and the two 6X8's on the rear shelf (or next to the rear seats in the convertible). Both have same clarity, but the Shaker Pro has extra boom with the undisclosed sized sub in the trunk.

I believe there are two 8" drivers in the doors as well as the 6x8's in the doors as well as the rear deck. I'm not sure if there are any high mounted tweeters or not. The shaker pro appears to only add the trunk mounted sub.

Hi All,

For those that have already taken delivery of their 2013 Mustang, can you guys comment on the new Shaker and Shaker Pro audio systems? Do they sound any different than the Shaker 500 and Shaker 1000 systems?

Thanks.

I don't know how helpful this is but in my video reviews I speak about how the new system does a better job of retaining a clear sound at higher volumes. Otherwise, though, I think it's about the same in regards to bass.

I just remember it didn't sound worlds different going from my '11 and '12s to the '13.

I agree. I sat in a '13 last week and played with the stereo... it sounded about the same to me. Which is to say it sounded a bit like a stereo where none of the speakers are pointed towards your ears. :/

Can anyone help me?

Last Friday I got my new GT 2013 MT82 Premium with Shaker Pro Audio.

When I press the sound button there is no option Shaker On / Off like in my previous GT 12 Shaker 1000... Can anyone told me if this is correct or my 13 GT needs some programming?

Regards

It still uses muddy sounding paper speakers, and the nonsense about the speakers going below the range of human hearing is a load of bull. They go down to 28hz, which is pretty much what every subwoofer can do as a minimum.

I've just completed upgrading the system in my base Mustang. Polk Audio DB5251s up front, Polk Audio MM571s in the rear, and a 12" Polk Audio MM1240 in the trunk powered by an Apline MRX-V70 amp. Both sound quality and volume are FAR better than my brother-in-law's Shaker system, and it cost less than what Ford wants for the Shaker upgrade.

Hey Moustang, got any pictures of your install? I'm especially interested in your front tweeter placement... I'd really like to get some idea where peeps are putting their tweets

I think you are in the wrong forum if you don't know where to put your tweets

I traded my 05 with a Shaker 1000 for a 13 GT Premium with the standard Shaker and was very disappointed. Bass is not so good.

well duh, cuz you have no sub in the trunk. Significant sound difference when the ohms double and the output it cut in half in addition to the lack of sub.
