Winter wheel choice - poll
Looking into 18's for the ride for the winter.
Going on tirerack.com, choosing the Brembo-pkg Mustang, then choosing "Winter" allows me to pick an 18" snow tire then move over to 18" wheels.
This is the only way I can have that web site allow me to choose 18's for the Brembo-pkg car.
So anyway,
I've narrowed it down to 2 Sport Edition wheels, and I think I like the 5-spoke design better, mostly because of being easier to clean.
What do you guys think?
The 5-spoke TX8, multi-spoke F10, or a different rim altogether?
If a different choice, please recommend which one, but please have it be in the same price range of up-to-about $150/rim.
Thanks guys (and gals
)
1. Sport Edition TX8 18x8 40mm offset $155 each

2. Sport Edition F10 18x8 40mm offset $134 each

Do you need to run an 8" wide wheel? If you're willing to go out to 9" wide, you can run some of the 18x9 replicas from American Muscle which will look better than any of the Sport Edition choices. I run 18x9 GT500 replicas with 245 width Dunlop WinterSport M3 tires in the winter.
If you want to stick with those two choices, I'd go with #1.
Edit: Looks like there is an 18x8 option on AM that will work with the Brembo brakes. The AMR multispoke wheels are available in 18x8 for $150 a pop.

They've been great. I believe the 3D (and now 4D) are the newer tire models which should perform even better, but I haven't had any problems with the M3.
They work very well in light snow. In deeper, heavier snow (lets say 4"+) it can get tricky but still works well. I learned my lesson after my first major snow storm with these tires that it is still a good idea to keep some weight over the rear axle to help with my starts.
Dry, cold pavement performance (what I see 95% of the time) has been fantastic. You can still have fun with the car.

I have talked to a few tire guys the last week. All suggest a full snow tire for the mustang, and all are coming back with the toyo tire are the best choice for rain/snow/sleet.
The way it was explained to me was, you can get a sport snow tire, which work very well in the cold dry whether, and handles terrifi pc, but in snow conditions they don't handle we'll. Then there are the full snows, which are made for freezing rain and snow driving and hadle and grip excellent, but in cold dry winter weather are not very sporty, and somewhat noisey.
You have to pic one or the other, as they are both made for different reasons, and unfortunately their are no in between snow tires...it's either one, or the other.
I'm going for the full snows, and the toyo gsi5...but if your application is dry winter performance, then you have a good choice.
Good luck ! And safe driving.

Funny Back in Black :-)
They're a winter set-up. Go for the cheapest wheel and best rated tire. I had a set on my supercharged bullitt and was able to negotiate roads that had all wheel drive vehicles with all seasons stuck. Those were blizzaks btw. I see you're in New Hampshire so lots of snow. Good luck.

hehehe.....
Betcha thought I forgot, huh?
Oh- I like #1 better for a winter wheel. On my GT, the stock rims will become my winter wheels, and hopefully next spring I'll be getting something better for summer wheels and tires!
9/6/12: Looks great Gabe! I'm still anticipating the "Wheel Thread" though!

And right now I'm actually shopping for 19" snow tires to install on the OEM rims, then gonna look for 20's for the summer ...
So this thread is a nice little exercise, but I'm most likely not gonna end up with either one of the rims above ... lol
Front-runner in the 19" snow tire category - sized 245/45R19 for a slightly narrower/taller tire - is the Pirelli Winter Carving Edge, but also looking into the Dunlop Graspic DS3 and maybe the Dunlop Winter Sport 3D

Have a look at the AMR wheels pretty cheap and nice.

Thanks for those that chimed in / voted.
I ended up ordering a set of all-season Kumho Ecsta 4X KU22 tires, in the stock 255/40R19 size.
They're at the shop, I have an appt to have them mounted/balanced tomorrow at 3PM
Dealing with local tire shop, had them order the tires, they came very close to Discount Tire's price / free shipping offer (within $6), and gonna have them put them on, along with their lifetime-repair/replacement package (repairs being done via internal patches if needed).
Can't wait to try them out ... I have a half-hour highway ride right after they get done, then Sunday morning I have a 2-hour-each-way highway ride to a car show in CT ...
