To Stripe or not to stripe...that is the question.
I am really liking the look of the wider racing stripes like on the GT500 and am thinking of maybe getting them put on next spring. First off, I am thinking of flat back so that they are understated but still noticable. Does everyone think the flat black would look better than say a darker gray? Also, how does one go about finding someone who does a good job of putting these on. Also, what type of care do the stripes take? I am assuming I would go with a tape rather than having them painted on. Is there any brand that stands out above others. And for installation, what is a fair price for the job?

Flat black is a very "safe" choice.
In my opinion your ride will not stand out from the rest of the pack as it is a very common combination, but it really depends on what look you are trying to achieve. Most purists hate my stripes, but I DO get alot of notice with them.

If I had a black Mustang like you do, I would be very tempted to get matte black stripes. Gray/silver stripes would be equally high on my list.
I'm waiting on my sterling gray Mustang to arrive, and I'll be doing high-gloss black stripes. It's all about contrast for me, but subtle, restrained contrast. I like a stealthy, but simultaneously eye-grabbing look.
There's nothing at all wrong with in-your-face striking contrast though... it's all about your personal preferences.

If flat black and a dark grey are your only choices, I would go with the flat black.

Keep in mind, if you go with matte or flat stripes you're going to have to be very careful if/when you wax/polish/shine your car. You get the wax on them and you will have a hell of a time getting it off again. Just a consideration for something other than gloss striping.

Stripe it! We are putting Silver stripes on our Shelby someday....soon....lol Also, I agree with being careful while waxing the matte black stripe. The matte black stripes scare me when it comes to waxing....

I say do it. I did mine myself. Took me a weekend. Its not for everyone though. Make sure the vinyl is good quality from whomever you get them from. 3M is the best.
Wannabe, Where did you get the thin stripes? I have been trying to find thin GHIG colored ones but can't find them. Even on the internets...

Someone made a comment on another thread about putting stripes on the 10-12 Mustangs, due to the "cowl" on the hood making the striping look odd...anyone else notice that? I was wondering if having that "bump" in the hood would make the stripes look off somehow....

Although there are several brands that won't discolor matte/flat finishes, I use Turtle Wax Ice on painted surfaces and unpainted plastic as well. Never had a problem with matte/flat black turning white, like carwash spray waxes do.

I vote for flat black also. I use a detail spray on mine with no discoloring or shine. When I wax, I just lay down some blue painters tape over the edge of the stripes.
