Question about different wheel size combos

OK,

I did search the forums, and I was not able find what I was looking for. I apologize if this question has been answered at nauseum.

What performance difference would I see between the following wheel / tire set up (assuming the same quality of rubber is being used).

1. 285 or wider rears with 255 fronts on 20 x 9 and 10 inch rims (staggered).

2. 275 on all 4 tires with 19 x 9.5 rims.

I really wanted the staggered look, but then ran across the RTR or SVE 19 x 9.5 rims and like their look a lot. I don't know if there is a handling / performance increase with either set up (285R, 255R vs 275 x 4).

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Again, sorry if this has been discussed.

Mike

More rubber on the road = more power put on the road.

In the back, true. However, more rubber=less steering awesomeness, if there's too much rubber in front.

The SVT team still swears by 255 in front, 285 in the back, and won't come off that stance. Their answer is the steering sucks if you go 275/275, basically. Plus, staggered looks more cool.

Also, shorter sidewalls from 19 to 20 inch rims = better response in turns, generally. But you wind up with more ride harshness as a consequence.

BUT... if you're not tracking the car, then it's really about what kind of looks you want. Want good Staggered Look? 255/285. Want them the same? 275s. Like the 20s or the 19s? Pick one. That's it.
