Plasti dipped faux cap

Do you guys have any tips on how to tape of this faux cap and get an even coat of plasti dip? I tried today and it still looks rough, and there is a bit of plasti dip that hangs over onto the decklid panel. Suggestions?

I had the same problems with mine coming out rough when i did light coats. I actually did real heavy coats, but not enough for it to run. It came out much smoother. However the FORD bezel still isn't as smooth as I'd like it.

Another issue I had was when I start spraying heavy globs come out right away and land on your work. They dry flatter and blend but not perfect. So i start by spraying the paper I have laid out. Its actually pretty tricky to get right. At least for me. I usually am doing good till the last coat.
